Last success came at Haydock over a year ago, and is now 10lb lower. Well held on recent starts, so a bit to prove for his respected connections.

Two wins this season have come over 1m2f at Beverley, but did run well at this track two starts ago. Drop in trip should not be a problem given he finished second over C&D in July, last year.

Remains a maiden after 17 starts, but has gone close on a number of occasions, including when second of five at Leicester three starts ago. He is 1lb lower than for that outing and should give his running.

Two outings this season since being gelded have not gone according to plan, but he showed promise as a juvenile and would be of interest off this mark if able to regain his form.

Step up to this distance proved just the ticket at Carlisle and subsequent fourth of 10 at Thirsk was over 7f. Runs off the same mark here and the return to a mile could see him in a better light.

On a long, losing streak, but has shaped with credit on recent starts and current handicap mark is one he should be competitive off. Each-way claims.

Only win in 28 starts came at Bath in May, last year. Has shown little since joining his current stable and is on a career-low mark. Readily opposed.

Has had 25 races on the Flat without success. Has been tried over a variety of trips without any joy so it is not hard to look elsewhere.

Forecasts

Ventura Secret (2/1), Whitkirk (7/2), Dandyleekie (4/1), Totally Magic (9/2), Arithmetic (6/1), Trinity Star (6/1), Bit Of A Quirke (7/1), Rockliffe (8/1), Sooqaan (17/2), Buccaneers Cove (10/1), Thornaby Nash (14/1), Bertha Burnett (25/1), Zone In (33/1)

Verdict

Not as competitive as the first division of this handicap. Those at the foot of the handicap make little appeal, but Ventura Secret could still have a little juice in his handicap mark back over a mile. He could go close, but BIT OF A QUIRKE gets a narrow vote given his solid form this season and fair record at the track. The drop in trip should not be a problem and he can hold off respected top weight Whitkirk and steady campaigner Trinity Star.

  2. Whitkirk
  3. Trinity Star
