Enjoyed a productive year so far, winning for his previous trainer Pat Fahey at Thurles in March, and for his new trainer at Uttoxeter last month. Up 8lb, but his recent form reads well, and with a 7lb claimer booked, he looks tough to beat, given that he appears to find plenty for pressure. Withdrawn at Worcester on Tuesday.
Lightly raced sort who showed plenty of promise in novice hurdles in the spring/summer of 2016 (Cartmel winner). Not fully exposed in handicaps just yet, but off the track since October 2016 and might just need to race this afternoon.
Off the mark at the fifth time of asking over hurdles in a relatively low-key 2m4f novices hurdle here last month (beat Ebony Rose by 13L). Upped in trip for handicap debut, and this is an altogether much tougher assignment.
C&D winner in March 2016 (from a 4lb higher mark). Can take a fierce hold in his races, so would be suited by a decent pace in order to settle. Interesting to see what impact the first time blinkers have and could feasibly be involved if he takes to the headgear, even allowing for the fact he's generally better with cut.
Infrequent winner (last success coming in December 2015), and badly out of sorts in three starts over hurdles since May. Handicapper giving him a chance, but needs to show much more than at Uttoxeter latest.
Two time winner for Tim Vaughan (maiden hurdle and novices hurdle) who is gradually easing in the weights from an impossible mark north of 120. Not with this trainer for all that long and should make his mark sooner rather than later, just probably not today.
Won twice lately when a test of stamina has been in the equation (3m Southwell and 2m6f Stratford) so probably has a valid excuse for his latest two defeats (too short). That said, 15lb above his last winning mark, so place claims look most likely now back up in trip.
Veteran who has raced just three times since winning at Roscommon in September 2013. Tailed off on his latest return to action at Ballinrobe last month and realistically has no chance in this contest.
Forecasts
Supreme Steel (6/4), Blue Comet (5/2), Moidore (6/1), Uncle Tone (9/1), Polarbrook (10/1), Bellaney Knight (12/1), Waltz Darling (28/1), Sir Vincent (50/1)
The progressive SUPREME STEEL can add to his gains in 2017 by recording a second success in three starts for Dr Richard Newland. His recent form is strong in the context of this race (Uttoxeter conqueror Terry The Fish a winner since), and his 8lb rise for his subsequent Uttoxeter victory is largely offset by the booking of 7lb claimer Charlie Hammond. Of the remainder Bellaney Knight is relatively unexposed in handicaps, but might need this race, so Moidore might be the best forecast option (at decent odds) in the first time blinkers.
- Supreme Steel
- Moidore
- Blue Comet
