Qatar Goodwood Cup Stakes (Group 1)

Game front-runner who was as impressive as ever when landing the Gold Cup last time out at Royal Ascot, holding off Order Of St George. Has won each of the last two renewals of this race and very hard to oppose against largely exposed rivals. Softer ground is a concern but may just have too much class for these regardless.

No match for Big Orange in a Group 3 at Sandown two starts back but impressive when winning the Northumberland plate last time out, sticking to his task in game fashion. One of the few unexposed ones in the line up but plenty of improvement needed to overhaul Big Orange and softer ground here is a question mark.

Won a Group 1 at Longchamp in his pomp and adept to softer conditions. Good effort on comeback run at York after over two years off the course but couldn't back that up at that same course in July. Needs to bounce back from that effort but place claims if he can and stamina/conditions proven.

Won a conditions race at Royal Ascot in impressive fashion and may give Big Orange some company on the front end for a while but it's been a while since he contested a Group race and he finished well beaten in Listed company last time. Yard's runners often go well at this meeting but seemingly up against it on all known form.

Runner-up behind Big Orange in this race last year and ran well at York on a subsequent outing but out of form on return this year; seemingly amiss. Given time to recover from that effort but he's a far from straightforward sort and he's better on faster ground than what he will get here.

Good effort behind Sweet Selection two starts back and not disgraced in the Ascot Gold Cup last time but plenty of work to do to turn the form around with several of these rivals such as Sheikhzayedroad, Sweet Selection and Big Orange.

Has improved on the Flat since joining this yard and produced a fine effort to finish fourth in last year's Melbourne Cup after winning the Group 3 Geelong Cup down under. Fair effort when fourth behind Oriental Fox at Royal Ascot last time and entitled to come on for that run. With the potential to prefer the softer condition here, he could run a big race.

Third behind Vazirabad in the Dubai gold Cup last year and won back-to-back Group 2 contests last year, including a valuable contest on Champions Day at Ascot. Top class on his day but never managed to threaten at Royal Ascot last time and softer ground probably not in his favour; others hold more appeal.

Excellent effort in last year's Derby when runner-up to Harzand but not won subsequently and has been a beaten short-priced favourite on four of those seven runs. First-time hood needs to spark a return to form and his attitude has been called into questions at times. Yard won this in 2009.

Landed the Irish St Leger last year but that rival has been beaten on four subsequent starts in Group company so perhaps not the strongest form with hindsight. Beaten favourite himself on two most recent starts but return to softer ground will suit and yard are always to be respected.

Won a Listed race in France last year and has run well behind Big Orange on her two most recent efforts. Has to contend with a step back in trip and softer ground but she's less exposed than most and she will get a pace to aim.

Won the Cesarewitch last year and started this year in fine form with a win in Group 3 company. Fair effort in the Ascot Gold Cup and respectable effort in softer conditions last time so ground shouldn't be an issue. Gives the impression we have not seen the best of her yet and should run well having proven herself on undulating tracks.

Back-to-back winner last year and ran well in Group 3 company last time out but this is a far stronger race and first-time cheekpieces need to improve him. Demanding test for his age and no three-year-old has won this since 1990.

Excellent winner at Royal Ascot but gives the impression he's much better on faster ground and could find this a culture shock in much deeper. Trainer won this in 1993 but no three-year-old has won this contest since 1990.
