Progressive on the AW during the winter months (6f Fibresand and 5f Polytrack winner), but has found life tougher from elevated marks on turf since. Worth trying on Tapeta having finished last of six at Sandown latest (runner up won since).
Best suited by synthetics (two from two on the AW). Yet to sample Tapeta, and 8lb higher than when successful at Kempton (6f) earlier in the month, but holds obvious claims.
Short-head winner of the Slip Anchor Nottingham maiden last back-end and has improved with further experience since switched to handicaps. Beat Swendab by 1½L over 6f at Bath on his penultimate start and broadly ran to his current mark when dropped in trip latest.
Off the mark at the fourth attempt at Kempton in April (1m maiden) and did well enough on handicap debut at Lingfield later that month (runner up to Aventinus). Excuses for his latest flop (lost a shoe), and drops again in trip (to 6f) wearing a visor.
Winner over 5f at Ripon (good) in June but disappointing twice since. Beaten a head on his sole start on the AW over C&D in September 2016, and comes here in preference to Doncaster on Thursday (Non-Runner after declarations).
3L runner up to Poet's Society over 5f here in May 2016 on his sole career AW start, but bounced back from 11 months off subsequently to score on seasonal debut at Nottingham in April (5f good to firm). Solid since, albeit beaten by Boundsy at Chester a fortnight ago and needs to reverse those placings on slightly better terms.
AW debut. Twice a runner up over 5f at Redcar and Pontefract before winning at Chester over 6f a fortnight ago (Tallinski less than 2L fifth). Up 2lb and this track provides a different test, but seems versatile enough so no obvious reason why he shouldn't run his race.
Notched four successes in five starts on the AW between December 2016 and March 2017, and is unbeaten on Tapeta (at Wolverhampton). Not so productive back on turf (largely kept to soft ground) and this is certainly a stronger race than those he was winning during that productive spell.
Forecasts
Trick of The Light (3/1), Comprise (10/3), Archer's Arrow (4/1), Boundsy (11/2), Lord Cooper (8/1), Tallinski (12/1), Ascot Day (16/1), Harome (16/1)
The majority of these runners are much better suited to synthetics than turf, with the likes of Ascot Day, COMPRISE and Lord Cooper sporting strong records on various artificial surfaces. The selection is yet to sample Tapeta, but is two from two on the AW and will most likely seek to make all under Jamie Spencer (holds a strong book of rides today). Of the others Trick Of The Light appears fairly solid, whilst there's clearly not a great deal to choose between Boundsy and Tallinski on their clash at the Roodeye a fortnight ago.
- Comprise
- Trick of The Light
- Boundsy
