Irish raider who has become a shadow of his former self. Hasn't won since January 2015 and regularly fails to complete, but dropping in the weights, down from an extreme trip (latest), and you never quite know whether or not this unique venue will provide the spark that reignites a dwindling flame.
Ran out a 2¼L winner at Market Rasen a fortnight ago with the blinkers reapplied. That probably wasn't the strongest of races, and his head carriage has looked a bit suspect at times. Up 5lb, but has the assistance of the champion jockey to persuade him to put his best foot forward.
Notched a seven day double in November (Huntingdon chase, Fakenham hurdle) and has returned from a break in mixed form from higher marks. Pushed out to beat Butlergrove King by 8L at Newton Abbot in late June, but she probably wasn't at her best at Worcester latest. High in the weights.
Won over 2m3f+ at Sedgefield for Charlie Longsdon in August 2016, but not much of a force in six starts for new connections. Fallen 13lb in the weights since December but needs to show more.
Veteran who has won over fences at this track in the past, and was successful on his penultimate jumps outing at Perth (2m4f good) in mid May. Upped 6lb for that victory, he has been beaten on the Flat since, but more worryingly was off the pace from the seventh fence when last of 12 at Perth just over a fortnight ago.
Consistent, but always appears to need the cards to fall his way in order to get his head in front. Generally saves his best for Hexham, but made all and was ridden right out to hold off Dica over C&D latest (good to soft). Raised 4lb and excessive rain would be a worry, but certain to be given an action packed ride from a strong pilot.
Yet to win in 20 starts in total including 18 outings under rules. Not shown enough to suggest his day will come and difficult to fancy despite the paucity of opposition here.
Forecasts
Apache Jack (2/1), Shady Glen (3/1), Brother Scott (9/2), Prettylittlething (5/1), Cooper's Friend (7/1), Sergeant Pink (16/1), Daydream Island (40/1)
Question marks against nearly all of these horses, with many of those likely to be towards the fore of the market not exactly regular or always willing winners. Both Shady Glen and Brother Scott have the ability to win races (as shown recently), but generally speaking find those days more the exception rather than the norm. Therefore, with Prettylittlething off a tough mark and Sergeant Pink needing to bounce back from Perth, we seek some real value in the shape of APACHE JACK. He'd have kicked this lot into touch once upon a time, and although clearly badly on the decline over the past couple of years is worth chancing in a poor race from a much reduced mark at a track which might just inspire him onto better things.
- Apache Jack
- Brother Scott
- Shady Glen
