Made a winning stable debut on the AW at Wolverhampton last week, and even allowing for his penalty effectively races from a lower mark today (turf rating is lower than his AW mark). Has shown ability on grass previously for William Muir and should make a bold bid to follow up.

Made the frame in a couple of 1m2f Nottingham handicaps, including in a similar contest (for this rider) when beaten under 1L by Diamonds A Dancing latest. Up another 1lb, but first time cheek-pieces could aid further improvement.

Not won since March 2016 and generally appreciates some cut in the ground. Placed a couple of times on the Fibresand at Southwell over the winter, albeit well beaten over 1m, and a poor showing latest, so not an obvious winner in waiting.

3lb higher for a gritty ¾L success at Nottingham (1m2f) earlier this month; Spinart third and others further behind. That success proved he stayed this trip and should be thereabouts.

Goes very well on the Westwood, and took a 1m4f contest for the second year running on his most recent start here last month (beat Tred Softly by a head). Up 2lb in the handicap, but also has a C&D success on his CV, so clearly one for the shortlist.

15 race maiden, and can only be described as a mare who hasn't fulfilled her potential despite being a nice enough sort physically. She's yet to race beyond 1m, so tackles this trip for the first time from a career low handicap mark.

A three time career Beverley winner (including over C&D in an Lady Amateur Riders event), but was beaten in a seller here recently (third to Iberica Road) and needs to show a shade more now.

Has spent the vast majority of his 37 race career on synthetics (3 from 29), but his sole 'success' (dead-heat) on grass came over the extended mile here in September 2016. Looks vulnerable at this trip with all of his best form coming over 1m.

Not won since September 2014 (for Sylvester Kirk), and his previous course form isn't the most appealing. No reason to expect he's able to reverse his recent Nottingham form with Diamonds A Dancing and others.

Best with some cut, but two of her three career successes have come for Lady Riders. Dropping in the weights and mildly interesting when some rain arrives, but not for today despite having the same leading rider booked who partnered her when seventh of 14 to Diamonds A Dancing at Nottingham recently.

Forecasts

Royal Reserve (11/4), Diamonds A Dancing (9/2), Spinart (9/2), Lean On Pete (7/1), I'm Super Too (12/1), American Hustle (12/1), Royal Holiday (12/1), Candesta (14/1), Inspector Norse (14/1), Euro Mac (20/1), Graceful Act (33/1), Pivotman (33/1), Belle Peinture (66/1)

Verdict

These type of events generally make little appeal to punters, but there are plenty more that can be counted out in this race than in. There should be no real reason as to why Diamonds A Dancing can't again see off his Nottingham rivals which include Spinart, Graceful Act and Inspector Norse. Westwood regular Lean On Pete should figure high on the shortlist despite the drop in trip, but the obvious standout contender is the recent David O'Meara trained acquisition ROYAL RESERVE. He bounced right back to form on his stable debut at Wolverhampton last week and despite dropping back in trip looks very well treated on turf compared to synthetics.
  1. Royal Reserve
  2. Lean On Pete
  3. Diamonds A Dancing
