Ascended the ranks in decent fashion last year, achieving peak rating of 98. Well held over 6f here on final start, has fitness to prove here on return and other are perhaps better placed for today.

All nine career wins have come over 7f, beaten 2¼L over this C&D last time out off this mark when not getting the clearest of runs. Not discounted.

Fared a little better over 5f here last time out, having disappointed in two previous outings this season over longer including 24L beating over this C&D in May on softer ground. Remains lightly-raced but has something to find at the moment.

Was a 7f AW Flat winner for Mark Johnston but yet to get his head in front for this yard, mostly tackling longer trips. Should have ground to suit for this drop back to 6f.

Off the mark over 7f at Fairyhouse last month on good ground, didn't fire when tackling the mile at Limerick 24 hours later. Back down in trip and could be capable of improving again over this distance.

String of poor efforts have resulted in handicap mark dropping. On his day he'd be a force at these weights and ran a much better race last time out at Naas (7f, good to firm). Drops another 2lb here and could be competitive.

Beaten 6½L over C&D off this rating last month, probably going to require a career-best performance to land this contest.

Good winner at Limerick over slightly shorter trip last month and just foiled over C&D when attempting to defy 8lb rise at the start of this month. Gets another 1lb on but very much in the mix and still going the right way.

C&D winner who has been running some solid races both on turf and the all-weather recently. Was beaten just ½L in a handicap over track and trip this month and is up just 1lb for it. Also just 1lb higher than previous turf winning mark and no shock to see him in the mix.

Veteran performer has been running with credit at lower levels recently, looks hard-pressed to have a major say in this from out of the handicap.

Forecasts

Severus (4/1), Have A Nice Day (9/2), Fountain (11/2), Plough Boy (6/1), Cenotaph (6/1), Fit For Function (11/1), Time To Reason (12/1), An Saighdiur (12/1), Turbine (14/1), Bubbly Bellini (25/1)

Verdict

Severus has been in excellent heart of late, going down narrowly here after a win at Limerick and he looks sure to go well again while Fountain can be forgiven a flop at Limerick last time having opened his account over this trip at Fairyhouse just 24 hours previously. He should get back on track now back over this 7f. Former C&D winner PLOUGH BOY is another that has been flagging signs of returning to the winners circle recently. He was just denied here last time and is on a nice weight for this contest if in the same mood. Time To Reason is interesting off a layoff and should be noted in the betting.
  1. Plough Boy
  2. Severus
  3. Fountain
