Won this two years ago and comes here in good, consistent form of late. Just touched off over 5f last time (firm) and from 1lb higher he should be thereabouts again.
Was still winning races as a 12-year-old last season and loves it here, having scored over C&D once and over 5½f on three other occasions here. Plenty high enough in the weights at present, but did win off this mark at Chelmsford in October and still couldn't rule him out.
Just edged out Captain Ryan here over 5½f last month, but beaten in a better race when raised 2lb to this mark last time. Has claims again, though consistency is not a strong point.
Makes her handicap debut here after five attempts in novices'/maiden company. Mark looks reasonable and if she could reproduce the form of her Newcastle effort two starts ago she would have a squeak.
Has gone well both on turf and the All Weather at Lingfield on her last two outings, scoring on the latter surface last time (5f). Front pair had a couple of lengths to spare there, so there is hope that she can cope with this 3lb rise. Acts on fast ground.
Dropped 3lb after being well beaten at Doncaster last time and that should help. Prior to that he had made the frame (beaten just over 3L) here over 5½f (firm) from what was 4lb higher than today, so should be capable of a good performance.
Has a bit to find with both Captain Ryan and Jaganory on their running here last month and was also well beaten from today's mark last time. Goes well here, but hard to fancy with any confidence on recent evidence.
It is almost three years to the day since he won over 5½f here and he was good enough to score over the same trip at Brighton last season from 15lb higher. On the slide since, but showed signs of a revival last time when 2L fourth and a further 2lb drop plus a claimer up might just help him get involved again.
Went close at Wolverhampton from this mark last month, but the balance of her recent form other than that gives her a bit to find from this mark.
1lb out of the handicap going into this and with just one turf win to his name way back on 2012. Went well enough at Brighton a couple of starts ago over 5½f, but plenty of others holes to pick in recent form and can't be recommended with any confidence.
Out of the handicap here and, while her form this year has occasionally being encouraging with a race like this in mind, there just has not been enough of it and it takes too big a leap of faith to see her winning.
Yet to make the frame from seven starts and has only once threatened to do so. Needs to find something from somewhere and at the moment that is not looking as though it will be forthcoming.
Forecasts
Captain Ryan (4/1), Staffa (9/2), Lucky Clover (7/1), Three C's (7/1), Jaganory (8/1), Mostashreqah (9/1), Mambo Spirit (10/1), Double Spin (10/1), Ask The Guru (14/1), Rat Catcher (40/1), Glam'selle (40/1), Tess Graham (50/1)
The race involving Captain Ryan, Jaganory and Lucky Clover here last month will probably have some influence on how the prize money is divided up here with the former pair more likely to be taking some home again. Three C's and Double Spin are others with claims and Mambo Spirit would be a popular winner. However, ASK THE GURU is now on a mark where he can have a major say and he is the tentative choice.
- Ask The Guru
- Captain Ryan
- Three C's
