Won a handicap here over 5½f a couple of years ago when rated 52, though has shown a very clear penchant for Lingfield's Polytrack. Was last seen runner-up in a seller there, though should be capable of having a say today from this mark.

0-29 says plenty, though she went very close to breaking her duck in a handicap over C&D (good to firm) last time. Beaten just a neck there, she is up 2lb today and the percentage call is to take her on yet again.

Scored over 7f at Sandown on good ground a year or so ago from a mark of 52 and her performances since have suggested that that is the ceiling of her abilities. A 2lb drop will do no harm going into this, though with the yard just a little quiet she may have to wait for another day to get her nose back in front.

Broke his duck at the 38th attempt at Yarmouth (6f, good to firm) last month in a first-time tongue strap. Couldn't repeat the feat in Jersey (7f) last time when beaten 5½L and although this drop back to 6f looks positive, a 4lb rise for the Yarmouth win does not.

None of his 15 career wins have come here, his best finish being a couple of fourths from five previous visits. Nonetheless, he is a proven winner and was going well when we last saw him over this trip in the winter. Not as good on turf and likely, given his age, that he will need this after a break.

Ran well enough on his handicap debut at Musselburgh (7f, good to firm) last month, though didn't have the speed for 5f at WIndsor last time. Drops 1lb going into this and cheekpieces now added. A better effort is not ruled out at a price.

Forecasts

Wild Flower (6/4), Justice Rock (10/3), Cooperess (9/2), Triple Dream (7/1), Picansort (8/1), Deben (10/1), Verdi (11/1)

Verdict

Very moderate fayre, with DEBEN given the nod. The John Weymes-trained gelding has proved he can be very competitive from higher marks and the handicapper has now given him some rope. Wild Flower ran well here last time, but a win remained beyond her grasp and from 2lb higher she could again go well in defeat. Picansort and Verdi are perhaps the others who can fight out the minors.
  1. Deben
  2. Wild Flower
  3. Picansort
