Has taken well to fences winning on his second start after a solid debut and following up his victory with a solid run last time. Usually ridden positively and showed he could cope with this mark last time when unlucky to bump into an improver and could be well suited by this course.

Trainer has a shocking record with his handicap chasers here (0/27 since the start of 2011) and this lazy sort may not be the one to break that run. He shaped as though he retained his ability when back from a break last time and the handicapper has dropped him a couple of pounds but he's not an easy ride and doesn't look one to trust totally.

Possibility that he should have won more races that he actually and his last win came back in May 2015. He's run some creditable races occasions since then though off higher marks than this and isn't easily written off here.

Not the most straightforward of these but does have ability and is dangerously well handicapped off this mark. Last two runs have hinted that he may be ready to win especially his latest effort when he would have finished a lot closer were it not for a substantial error. Has to be respected here despite doubts about his temperament.

Still a long way off the form he showed in a real purple patch in the 2014/15 season with the last win coming off a mark of 124. Continues to tumble down the weights without looking as though he's going to repeat his winning form. Showed more at Hexham last time and that could be a springboard to a revival although that's no certainty.

Multiple point-to-point winner but yet to score under Rules and his form in hunter chases aren't going to be good enough here. Ran respectably returned to handicaps last time at Hexham but a repeat of that run wouldn't be good enough here.

Overcame errors that left him plenty to do when scoring at Kelso in May. Has run two poor races since over hurdles and fences and his jumping and general attitude make him opposable here.

Forecasts

Presenting Junior (3/1), Charlie Wingnut (3/1), Dursey Sound (4/1), Leanna Ban (13/2), Don Franco (7/1), Welsh Bard (8/1), Heart O Annandale (8/1), Bafana Choice (9/1), Clues And Arrows (12/1)

Verdict

The shocking record that Donald McCain has with his handicap chasers around here tempers enthusiasm a little for Welsh Bard who isn’t the easiest ride and doesn’t look one to trust totally. Dursey Sound is another who has to be respected off this mark but his temperament has to be looked at and called into question and he wouldn’t be one to take a short price about. Don Franco may bid to go one better than he did on Friday but he does take an age to warm up and Leanna Ban maybe a better option having run creditably of late. Presenting Junior should be involved off this mark but the improving CHARLIE WINGNUT looks as though he will be suited by this course and may be hard to catch if getting an easy lead around this sharp course.
  1. Charlie Wingnut
  2. Leanna Ban
  3. Dursey Sound
