Moderate in three bumpers and now makes his Flat debut. Stamina perhaps more about stamina than this trip will require and looks one to watch today.

Improved on her second start, which was here over 1m½f (good to soft) in September and not seen since then. Change of yards has followed and this extra half furlong should be a positive, but will need improvement even if she is straight enough after a nine month absence.
58,000gns foal, though reduced to 40,000gns as a yearling. Full-brother to a German winner over 1m1½f, out of a Group-placed 1m2f winning half-sister to 1m2f-1m4f winner Nizamar, out of an unraced daughter of Cherry Hinton winner Nasseem, who stayed 1m. Should be capable of a decent debut effort.

€55,000 foal who cost 55,000gns as a yearling. Half-brother to four winners, mainly over sprint trips, out of an unraced half-sister to 1m2f Group Three winner Windsor Palace, out of a 1m winner. Doesn't look to have been showing the speed of some of his relatives and yard not known for debut winners, so looks best watched this time.
Beaten 22L into fifth of seven on his debut at Ayr (1m, good) earlier in the month, when sent off at 66-1. Never got in a blow there and this looks like being another lesson in his racing education.

Best efforts so far have been at around 1m, as was the case when he was a 2L third here in maiden company last time (1m½f, good to firm). Extra half furlong or so many help him to find a bit of improvement and looks one of the more likely contenders.

Beaten just a nose over C&D (good) in a handicap at the start of the month before being well held in a better race at Haydock (1m2f, good) last time. Probably wouldn't want much rain but entitled to consideration if back on song in maiden company.

Made the frame on debut in a Salisbury maiden (1m4f, firm) in April, but did not kick on from there at Chester (1m2½f, good) last time. May not have handled the track there, though also raced as if the trip tested his speed, so going even shorter here looks to be a concern.

Made the frame in maidens at Doncaster (6f, good) and York (7f, good to firm) last season, but yet to show that sort of form in two handicaps this term. Steps up in trip here, which looks a positive move and if he runs to his ability then he would have claims.

Well beaten in both outings so far, not yet managing to come home in front of any of his opponents. Huge improvement needed this time, which step up in trip may help with, but looks on paper to be one to consider more closely when handicapping.

Placed in a couple of soft/heavy ground Irish maidens over 1m/1m½f and stays at least as far as this trip. Not disgraced in any of her runs this season, last time's effort being in a stronger contest. Will welcome any rain and looks to have the form to have a big say.

Forecasts

Set In Stone (2/1), Tread Lightly (10/3), Unite The Clans (9/2), Somnambulist (5/1), Grey Diamond (10/1), Precious Rock (12/1), Used To Be (16/1), Wee Bogus (50/1), Red Star Dancer (80/1), Clarabel (100/1), Palace Ball (100/1)

Verdict

Set In Stone looks likely to play a big role here and she has the form to give them all a fright, while Used To Be should benefit from the step up in trip and be thereabouts. Somnambulist and Tread Lightly are others to consider on short-lists, but all of those are exposed at least to some degree and it might be worth chancing the newcomer GREY DIAMOND. With the Mark Johnston string on sing and this runner having the sort of pedigree that suggests he can begin well at this trip, he is suggested against some vulnerable opponents, with conditions unlikely to be a major problem if the ground turns soft.
  1. Grey Diamond
  2. Set In Stone
  3. Somnambulist
