Has been running well enough this season, including last time out over 1m at the Curragh when close-up fourth of 20. Down in trip should give his running off same mark now.
Carries a penalty for midweek win at Naas over 7f, should get the ground to suit once again in this contest and likely he'll run well again.
Once considered a potential Classic contender, he won a Leopardstown mile maiden on heavy ground on his sole start last year. Returns from nine months off here and is very much respected for top trainer.
Finished 5L eighth over 7f at Naas (good to yielding) last month. Rated 6lb lower than when last successful in June last year and may surprise a few here.
Boasts a strike rate in excess of 20 per-cent from 39 career runs. Perhaps given a bit much to do last time out at Naas over 7f, drops 2lb and definitely one for the shortlist here.
Career-best effort to win over a mile at this track last month, is 4lb higher in the handicap now and drops in trip but must be taken seriously in bid to follow up.
Another excellent front-running effort to score over 1m at Limerick a week ago, has upped his game of late but will be rated 11lb higher now than last month's C&D runner-up finish.
Beaten 8¼L into third spot over C&D last time out, could easily run into similar spot here
Without a win in 12 runs, the seven most recent of which have come since switching to this trainer and turnaround hasn't exactly looked likely of late. Hard to be confident in chances at the moment.
Forecasts
Mizaah (3/1), Not A Bad Oul Day (9/2), Club Wexford (11/2), Secret Wizard (13/2), Shepherd's Purse (8/1), Ishebayorgrey (9/1), Northern Surprise (10/1), Araqeel (11/1), Rosenborg Rider (25/1)
The front-running Not A Bad Oul Day should give this another bold sight but there do appear to be one or two better equipped rivals to close him down this time. Secret Wizard produced his best effort to date here recently and cannot be discounted from a follow up whilst Club Wexford is respected but has a penalty to carry for his midweek win at Naas. Mizaah should be on the premises again but this might prove a perfect starting point in handicaps for ARAQEEL, winner of a Leopardstown maiden on his only start last year and surely capable of doing a lot better for the Weld team.
- Araqeel
- Club Wexford
- Not A Bad Oul Day
