King Edward VII Stakes (Group 2)

Beat The Anvil in a Newmarket Group 2 last time but not seen since and yard have been a little quiet in recent weeks. Jockey had a fine week here already but his mount is entitled to need this on his first run this season. First-time tongue-tie applied.

Finished off 2016 with an excellent second of 13 in a Group 1 in France. Things didn't pan out for him in Dubai this winter but got back on track with a Listed win at Lingfied last month and paid for tracking too strong a pace in the Derby last time. Still more to come and leading claims for a trainer who had a winner here Thursday.

Galileo colt, full brother to Group 3 winner Recorder and dam was a Group 2 winner. Made an impressive debut at Newbury but found Listed company too strong at Newmarket in a follow-up bid and this obviously tougher again.

Won a Nottingham maiden and followed that up with a smart effort in the Dante behind Permain who re-opposes now. Should carry on progressing and there could be more to come over this trip but not sure to reverse the form with that rival.

Made a good impression as a two-year-old and looked ready for a crack at middle distances when a staying on third to Cunco at Sandown in their Classic Trial in April. Well beaten on two starts this time around though and this race is tougher than either of those contests; wants softer ground to be seen at his best.

Won a weak looking Doncaster maiden towards the end of last year but he has struggled in two starts at pattern level. Well beaten in the Derby last time and needs a vast amount of improvement to figure here.

Won his maiden at Leopardstown on fast ground and unlucky not to win at Sandown on his return to action this campaign in a Group 3 when he had Frankuus in behind. Not certain to appreciate this step up in trip as much as some in here though and will have to improve again.

Won two Listed contests this season but found the Derby too much earlier in the month and has to turn the form around with several that finished in front of him there. Needs improvement to get involved.

Highly progressive this season and particularly impressive in the Dante at York. Paid the price for racing too close to a strong pace in the Derby last time but he's already proved he's better than that effort. Expected to do better here and trainer and jockey have an excellent strike-rate when teaming up together (20.18%)

Not beaten all that far in the Racing Post Trophy towards the end of last year but that doesn't look a particularly strong renewal of that contest. Disappointing on two outings this time around though and possibly wants a return to a shorter trip.

Runner-up in a Group 1 last year before finishing third in the Racing Post Trophy. Returned in good form at Newmarket before a disappointing effort in the Derby. Had his excuses that day and no surprise to see him do better here.

Won a Gowran Park maiden last year but proved disappointing in the Derby Trial at Lingfield. Significant that connections drop him in this deep but possibly better suited to more cut in the ground.
