Has settled for second place in each of his last three starts over hurdles, reverts to the Flat but remains 5lb above his previous winning mark in this sphere so has plenty to do at the moment.
Improved showing over 1m4f at Leopardstown on good ground last time out, needs to build on that again to be in the firing line however and was engaged 21:00 at Leopardstown on Thursday.
Record reads 1/16 on the Flat, win coming all the way back in September 2015, and was beaten out of sight in similar contest at Clonmel last month, making him hard to fancy in this.
Good effort over 2m at Kilbeggan on come back over hurdles this month, having first run on the Flat since disappointing effort over 1m5f at Galway in August 2015 and has a bit to find despite this reduced rating.
Beaten 6¼L over 1m (good) at Navan earlier in the month, this will be a first attempt beyond that distance for the seven-race maiden and he needs to improve significantly for the change.
Tailed off over hurdles at Killarney last month (2m1f, good) remains a maiden after seven starts on the Flat. Has run well over 1m2f on the AW at Dundalk so does possess scope to go well over this sort of trip.
All four career wins have come over 6f so this is perhaps asking plenty, was beaten close to 7L over 1m2f at Fairyhouse latest but now 17 runs without a win and is 4lb wrong at the weights here.
Second on previous Flat start over 1m2f (good to firm) at Cork last month, no chance with easy winner there but did well to gamely get up and be best of the rest. Runs of the same mark here so looks to hold decent claims.
Remains a maiden on the Flat and was well held when last spotted in this sphere over C&D in April, first-time tongue strap on here but not favoured at these weights.
Not won on the Flat since 2014, ran well enough over C&D on return from a year off in October when beaten just over 5L though was then absent for close to 200 days and beaten twice as far in April. First-time visor on now but others look more convincing.
C&D winner in June 2015 but now on a 14-race winless sequence, beaten 10L off this mark over 1m2f at Naas on Tuesday. Was beaten 1L over C&D this time last year do does tend to go well this time of year.
Beaten 6½L over C&D in April on reappearance, has since gone well over a shorter trip at Cork and entitled to have some kind of say in this going back up in distance off the same rating.
A 21-race maiden, he's 11lb out of the handicap for this and has no discernible form in the book that suggests he might defy the odds.
Sinndar gelding has been easily fended off in a trip of maidens so far, goes up markedly in trip for this handicap debut and won't be of interest unless the money is behind him.
Forecasts
Papal Motel (6/4), Kalann (7/1), Crafty Codger (7/1), Kates Doll (7/1), Konig Hall (12/1), House Limit (12/1), Caminel (16/1), Flannery (16/1), Erquy (20/1), Chicago Fire (20/1), Jindabyne (20/1), Grandma Dotty (25/1), Glendaars Best (25/1), Scobias (50/1)
CRAFTY CODGER essentially won a race within a race at Cork last time out on the Flat, sticking his neck out to take second behind a very easy winner. He runs off the same mark here and with more of that attitude should prove a tough nut to crack. House Limit has been out of form, but does to go well at this venue, this time of year so any money around for him would be worth noting. Kalann can take close order if building on his previous effort at Leopardstown while top weight Papal Motel has been in decent heart over timber and may go well back on the level.
- Crafty Codger
- Papal Motel
- House Limit
