Very consistent throughout 2016 but lost his way a little in recent times. Needs to come on for his most recent run at Southwell after an absence.

Nothing wrong with handicap mark based on efforts over this trip last summer/autumn but been badly out of form on all recent starts, finishing last of five at Warwick last month. Something to prove at present.

Age: 10|  Weight: 12-0| J: Aidan Coleman| T: J & A O'Neill| OR:  121| D

Ran well at Stratford three starts back and backed that effort up at Wetherby in April with an impressive win. Not beaten far at Southwell last time and he's an each-way player if arriving in the same form.
4
Horse silk
Marquis Of Carabas19
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-12| J: N D Fehily| T: David Dennis| OR:  119| D
9/2
Just one win from 13 starts under rules but still unexposed over fences and probably a little better than the bare result suggests at Worcester last time. Should be thereabouts if he jumps a little better.

West Torrp26
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-4| J: Sam Twiston-Davies| T: N & W Twiston-Davies| OR:  111| C

Sole win came over this trip here when hurdling but hardly looked a natural jumper on chase debut here last time and best watched for now.

Age: 12|  Weight: 11-4| J: James Bowen(7)| T: P & M Bowen| OR:  111| C| D

Not a lot of promise on his seasonal bow here last time and not won off a mark this high since 2014. Probably a little long in the tooth now and up against it.
7
Horse silk
Spring Steelt19
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-1| J: R P McLernon| T: Alexandra Dunn| OR:  108| D
7/1
Hit a rich vein of form last summer when landing handicap chase hat-trick. Improved for his seasonal reappearance when finishing second of seven at Worcester last time and entitled to be in the shake up once again here.

Horse silk
Chankillop14
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-11| J: R T Dunne| T: S-J Davies| OR:  104| D
7/1
Much better over fences than he is hurdles and gives the impression he's capable of scoring off this mark if everything falls right. Would want some rain to be seen at his best.

Forecasts

Marquis Of Carabas (9/2), Royal Plaza (9/2), Canicallyouback (5/1), Strongly Suggested (5/1), West Torr (11/2), Chankillo (7/1), Strumble Head (7/1), Spring Steel (7/1)

Verdict

SPRING STEEL was beaten all that far last time and he's generally a consistent sort who will enjoy the fast ground here. Strongly Suggested should be thereabouts if he turns up in the same form that saw him win at Wetherby in April while Marquis Of Carabas has a fair each-way chase and is still unexposed over the larger obstacles.
  1. Spring Steel
  2. Strongly Suggested
  3. Marquis Of Carabas
