Friendless in the market before completing a hat-trick last week when the race developed nicely for his way of running. Moonwise could set this up nicely for him again and a 4lb rise appears kind. Has built up a good rapport with this rider and stable in good form at present.
Scored over 6f at Lingfield in March from 9lb lower and was competitive from today's mark next time on his only start to date over this trip. Still has a bit to prove, however, after being well beaten last time.
Made most to beat a Mark Johnston newcomer over 7f at Carlisle with the pair well clear. The runner-up looked green that day and her subsequent efforts suggest this filly has something to find at these weights. Nevertheless, she was having just her second start and the drop to 6f here looks another positive if as enterprisingly ridden.
Form of his two AW starts suggest the handicapper is anticipating significant improvement from this lightly raced colt. Admittedly he looked raw on debut and had a bit in hand next time. A few of these have questions to answer and he could yet have a say.
Landed a Wolverhampton maiden over this trip in November and went close in a Newcastle handicap from 2lb lower than today on his final start for William Haggas in January. Well beaten having dwelt on his reappearance/stable debut at Pontefract last month and should do better this time.
Winner of a Kempton maiden which earned him a fair mark of 80. Has dropped down the weights since following some poor efforts including on debut for new trainer ten days ago. A gelding operation and application of a hood have failed to arrest the decline and experienced handler has work to do.
Best run of last year arguably came when upped to 7f on soft ground when staying on well late to grab fourth. Should improve for his reappearance at Yarmouth and the booking of the champion jockey suggests there are few doubts about having another go at this shorter trip.
Won back-to-back handicaps at Newcastle in March (6f/7f) but failed to handle a step up in class at Thirsk last time when well beaten and this further hike up in grade does not look obviously advantageous.
Forecasts
Goodwood Crusader (11/4), Moonwise (11/4), Fivetwoeight (4/1), Parys Mountain (11/2), Sword Exceed (9/1), Glorious Rocket (14/1), Man About Town (20/1), Red Gunner (20/1)
Moonwise and Fivetwoeight are two lightly raced types from respected yards who could prove better than their bare form suggests. Parys Mountain and Glorious Rocket have claims on their best form and jockey bookings make both interesting. GOODWOOD CRUSADER has completed his hat-trick under this rider and his manner of victory last time disguised what he had in hand. A 4lb higher mark may not be enough to stop him going in again.
- Goodwood Crusader
- Moonwise
