Still chasing his first handicap win but has run solid races on just about all his starts in this sphere so far and seems to still be improving. No surprise if this mark proves to be a little bit too high for him however.
Has run two fair races since switching to handicap company and should enjoy this step up in trip. Remains on the same mark and could certainly challenge for the places again.
Won a maiden on the third attempt last time and seems highly progressive. Opening mark seems fair and he goes from the inside draw on ground that should be fine for him. One to consider.
Well-backed and appropriately easy winner on debut in a Wolverhampton maiden in December and makes his handicap debut here. This will be more challenging, but should be tough to beat if able to improve from that first run.
Five-time winner on the all-weather but hasn't been able to run to the same standard on the turf and simply seems to be much better on a synthetic surface. Is working his way down to a workable mark though, though.
Couldn't replicate his fast ground form in soft conditions at Newbury last time in the London Gold Cup which was a competitive-enough affair. But he shouldn't be dismissed now returning to a sounder surface and a weaker race.
Winner on handicap debut last August but hasn't been able to progress from that off a higher mark since. Likes the ground and this looks to be his trip but is up against it in this company.
Slightly disappointing at Epsom last time (1m½f, good) but was having to contend with a 5lb increase in the weights having won at Windsor the time before. No obvious reason he should improve on that here.
Forecasts
Marzouq (15/8), Tafaakhor (9/2), Gloriosus (5/1), Mr Minerals (6/1), I'vegotthepower (8/1), Haulani (9/1), Masterofdiscovery (14/1), Poetic Force (16/1)
If the form of his debut can be trusted, MR MINERALS could take all the beating here. Richard Hughes' charge was very well backed on debut and won as he liked. An opening mark of 80 could be lenient, therefore, especially if he is able to improve from that in what is undoubtedly a tougher race. He looks to have the edge on fellow handicap debutant Gloriosus, who is a 1lb higher than him despite impressing less during three maidens, while Tafaakhor has been running some fair races recently and should enjoy this step up in trip.
- Mr Minerals
- Gloriosus
- Tafaakhor
