Only run this year came over hurdles at Ballinrobe last month, but previous form on the Flat means he gets plenty of respect in first-time tongue tie for this respected yard.
A four-time winner in France, hasn't found things easy in three recent starts since arriving in Ireland. Slightly better effort over 1m2f at the Curragh latest but may remain in the handicapper's grasp despite 2lb release.
Twice a winner on the AW at Dundalk early thus this year, beaten just a ½L over slightly longer trip at Leopardstown last time out off 1lb lower and clear claims again. Possibly doesn't always find as much as looks likely.
Winner at Newmarket in soft ground in 2015 but has only beaten five rivals home in a total of six starts since. First start for new yard with a tongue-tie fitted over 1m2f at Leopardstown recently brought an 8L defeat, that was off a 346-day layoff so there is hope of improvement now.
Beaten 16¾Linto in a handicap hurdle over 2m5f at Listowel (good) last time out 13 days ago. Over two years since he last won and more needed to take this based on two Flat runs in April.
Seven-race maiden on the Flat, last spotted being well beaten over today's trip on the AW at Dundalk in October. Has fitness, amongst other things, to prove now.
Scored over this trip at Roscommon in early May and another decent showing since on second start since off this revised rating to be close third over 1m5f in apprentice contest at Leopardstown late last month. Not out of the equation.
Filly hasn't shown as much as might have been deemed likely so far, she represents a top yard and still holds an Irish Oaks entry but she'll have to step up markedly to justify that sort of aim.
Poor form over hurdles of late and makes limited appeal back on the Flat for the first time in 384 days.
Signs of promise in two maidens this term on turf, tackling this trip for the first time now on handicap bow but would be advised to have a cautionary market check.
Stepped up on previous efforts this year when under 4L fourth of ten in a 1m2f Leopardstown handicap (yielding to soft) eight days ago. Rated 1lb lower here and has handled good ground on debut.
Filly has won two of her last four starts, including over 1m2f at this venue on the first of the month. She's capable but inconsistent and is not getting any apparent favours at the current weight. Dangerous to write her off.
Forecasts
Thunder Crash (10/3), Ligeti (5/1), Wild Irish Rose (6/1), Bottleofsmoke (6/1), Landsman (8/1), Cash In Mind (8/1), Slaney Street (10/1), Steelyeyed (12/1), Face Value (25/1), Last Garrison (25/1), Novancia (33/1), Black Benny (33/1)
Ligeti is a capable performer and should run well again but his tendency to find less than desired has led to second place finishes in four of his previous five starts and for that reason he is opposed. Steelyeyed will have claims if putting her best forward but doesn't come with any assurances while Bottleofsmoke, Slaney Street and Thunder Cash are others that could play a role and are worth noting in the betting. LANDSMAN is an interesting contender for Tony Martin. With a useful claim on his back, he is attractively weighted for this return to the Flat and son of Canford Cliffs could prove up to running a big race.
- Landsman
- Ligeti
- Slaney Street
