Capable of useful form on the right sort of track (goes well at Goodwood and Lingfield) but has failed to sparkle in four previous visits here. Looks there to be shot at under top-weight despite another decent effort at Goodwood last time.
Impressive winner of this race from an identical mark two years ago (good to firm) and has also scored from 6lb higher since. Fitness the issue today as he is unraced for over a year but a positive market move would be interesting.
Five-time winner who is better over further, having won just once from 25 attempts over this trip, though he shaped well over the distance recently when second to The Gay Cavalier on the AW at Lingfield. Others still more persuasive.
Was beginning to look a touch frustrating until finally obliging at the 11th attempt on soft ground over 1m2f at Haydock last week. Should continue to progress but quicker ground and a 6lb rise to contend with.
Experienced campaigner who was in good form throughout most of last season, winning three times at around 1m, but the handicapper appeared to reel him in eventually. Tall order on belated reappearance over a trip he's never won at.
Consistent performer over the years who is holding his form well in a busy campaign, placing twice at Bath since winning there (1m2f, firm) last month. This looks a deeper race but respected with top amateur booked.
Won twice for Godolphin in the past and, though he lost his way for this yard last year, he hinted when fourth at Yarmouth recently that a revival is in the offing. Trainer/jockey combination boast a formidable record in this race - respected.
Won twice early last season before losing his way but took advantage of a falling mark when beating Attain by just over 1L at Bath (1m2f, soft) last month. Only raised 2lb for that but easier ground probably ideal.
An 11-time winner down the years who was still running well as recently as March when a runner-up on the AW. Hard to make a case for though on his most recent efforts, including in a first-time visor at Goodwood latest.
Has won from much higher marks in the past but clearly not the force of old, even though he snapped a 12-race losing sequence by winning at Lingfield (1m3f, good) last time. Still feasibly-treated but wouldn't be an obvious one to follow up.
Doesn't win many (3 from 31 on the Flat) but has placed on 15 occasions, including last time out when third behind The Gay Cavalier at Lingfield (1m2f, AW). Should again run his race but always likely to bump into something better handicapped.
Not the most straightforward of rides and remains a maiden after 31 attempts, though he was once a disqualified 'winner'. Ended last season with a dismal effort and fared no better at Kempton on his reappearance last month.
Back with trainer for whom he won two races before picking up a race for Ian Williams' yard last summer. Encouraging signs in both starts this season over slightly further on the AW and merits a second look with cheekpieces reintroduced.
Still searching for a first win but not too many miles on the clock and was by means disgraced on her first start for this yard over 1m4f at Wolverhampton last month when a 5L fourth of 10 behind Infiniti. More needed now.
Shrugged off maiden tag on final start of 2016 and has improved further this season, winning his two most recent starts over 1m2f at Chelmsford and Brighton. Respected in current mood but this is a bigger ask.
Gained the last of his three wins over four years ago and, though he has placed on numerous occasions since, he has been off the track since February 2016. Probably best watched for that reason.
Forecasts
The Major (13/8), Zephyros (8/1), Attain (8/1), Best Example (9/1), Master Of Heaven (12/1), Duke Of Yorkshire (14/1), Mcdelta (14/1), Silver Dixie (16/1), Berkeley Vale (16/1), Party Royal (20/1), Pink Ribbon (20/1), Red Dragon (25/1), Wordismybond (33/1), Pretty Jewel (33/1), Classic Mission (33/1), Gaelic Silver (50/1)
A wide-open renewal in which The Major, Attain and Master of Heaven all make varying levels of appeal for different reasons. But, it's hard to escape the formidable record of Julia Fielden and Ross Birkett in this race and they appear to be teaming up with another live contender in the shape of BEST EXAMPLE who is thrown in at the weights on his best form and who has shaped better than the bare form suggests in his last two starts. Of those at likely bigger prices, Mcdelta is most interesting.
- Best Example
- Mcdelta
- Attain
