Commands respect with top jockey booked and having run so well in Listed company last time. Suspect there may be better handicapped horses in this.

Very progressive sort who never stopped improving last year with his win at Doncaster in October over 1m5f making him favourite for his one subsequent run in the November handicap over 1m4f. Ground completely against him on return. Will get the pace he needs and trainer has a 9-27 record with horses running over this C&D. Holds a Gold Cup entry later in the month.

Fifth in the November Handicap and a winner at Leicester (off higher mark) in 2016. First two runs of this season came when the stable were still to fire and latest effort came in Listed company in France. Has appeared not to stay on his previous attempts at this trip, although they include a tilt at last year's Ebor when he was not as well handicapped as today.

Won a Listed race in Italy towards the end of last year but disappointing on his initial start for new handler. Needs to have taken a big step forward if he's to get involved here though and looks a likely outsider.

Sixth in last year's Cesarewitch and after a winter hurdling campaign he was sent to Dubai where he was placed in a couple of valuable handicaps. Returns from a four month break but goes well fresh and he would appreciate some rain.

German import who won at Wolverhampton and that form does not warrant his current mark. Third in a slowly run two miler next time and stamina doubts remain.

Put away last season after finishing down the field in the Melrose Handicap at York in August. Has looked a much better horse this term and won with plenty to spare last time. A 7lb rise seems fair and he should give another good account.

Has plenty to find with Lord Yeats on running at York on ground that ought to have been to his liking. Tackles a new trip here with doubts based on pedigree he will stay this far. Rider is an impressive 12-35 for the trainer.

Versatile performer who made all to score over this trip at Haydock last autumn from a higher mark. Likes to get her toe in and arrives after a poor run last time.

Now 22 runs since last win. Handicap mark continues to tumble and it is just a question of knowing when the floor is reached. Recent evidence suggests there is still some way to go yet.

Inconsistent sort who put some poor efforts behind him when finishing third last time. Winner of 10-64 but yet to win in this grade after 24 attempts.

Won a decent maiden at Pontefract before training problems overtook him. Some promise on Wolverhampton return but yard have been out of form for several weeks. That is reflected in his latest performance, but yard's horses have been going better lately. Top claimer booked and this half-brother to Red Cadeaux is capable of landing a decent prize off this mark.

Useful dual purpose campaigner who appears to be on a lenient mark and still improving. Failed to secure a clear run at Chester last time when well supported. Trainer 5-19 in past fortnight.

Batts Rock14
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-2| J: Josephine Gordon| T: M L W Bell| OR:  84
7/1
Lightly raced gelding from an in form yard. Had been off for a year before finishing a fair second on his return at Ascot. Still looked raw on that occasion and was unlucky to clip heels and stumble at a crucial stage at Goodwood two weeks ago. Has the scope to do better with racing and there is potentially a good prize to be won with him.

Forecasts

Jaameh (9/2), Lord Yeats (6/1), Southdown Lad (13/2), Batts Rock (7/1), Byron Flyer (8/1), Cape Cova (8/1), Nakeeta (8/1), Amazing Red (9/1), Angel Gabrial (10/1), Hot Beat (12/1), Champagne Champ (12/1), Tawdeea (14/1), Blue Rambler (25/1), Gabrial's King (28/1), Intense Tango (40/1), Cosmelli (100/1)

Verdict

Amazing Red and Batts Rock are a couple of lightly raced four-year-olds who are probably better than their latest runs indicate and can pick up a nice pot before the end of the campaign. Cape Cova has a Gold Cup entry for Royal Ascot so he is clearly thought capable of further improvement this term. JAAMEH has benefitted from a winter break and won with something to spare last time. A 7lb rise for his latest victory seems generous as he gives the impression he could turn out to be more than useful performer at this trip.
