Listed winner who was not disgraced in the 2,000 Guineas. Drops in class with rider on board who is 10-37 for the yard and visor fitted. Drop in trip looks advisable as he has failed to see out a mile on a stiff track. Stable form is a concern (0-28 in past four weeks).

Hard not to be impressed by his manner of victory at Newcastle and a 9lb rise looks right. He could turn out to be smart and rider 11-52 for the stable.

Best when able to dictate from the front as has been the case for his two Mussleburgh victories this term. No obvious contender to take him on so it just remains to be seen if he can handle this more galloping circuit and tougher opposition. Trainer/jockey combination is surprisingly low at 4-33.

Brighton winner who has a tendency to hang. Soundly beaten on return when poorly drawn on the outside and racing too keenly. Should get more cover here but current mark probably overestimates him and rider/trainer jockey combination are just 1-30 at this venue.

Rattled off a hat-trick last autumn but last couple of runs suggest his form has nosedived since. Looks up against it in this class.

Positively ridden when justifying short odds at Ayr. No chance with the useful Mubtasim next time and ridden with restraint when behind a better fancied stablemate on comeback. Up against another front running stable companion here and jockey bookings indicate he is the second string.

Cost 200,000 gns as a yearling, he won his maiden in good style at Wolverhampton and has gone off as favourite for two handicaps at Leicester since. Can race freely which explains the switch to positive tactics over 6f twelve days ago. Back up in trip, raised in class and looks fully weighted so has plenty to prove.

Put in three creditable efforts last year, winning a Newcastle maiden (6f, AW) on his third start. Since been gelded and reappears for his handicap from what looks a stiff enough mark. Likely to need further improvement to resume with a win.

Proved his good run behind Atty Persse to be no fluke by improving again to finish third at Ascot and again to score at Epsom. Fortunes have changed with the fitting of a hood and partnership with this rider (two wins and two places). Up a further 7lb and yard are just 1-64 around here.

The form of his Newbury maiden victory would suggest he is well handicapped. Two runs this term have exposed his limitations and cheekpieces are fitted. Rider 3-5 for the yard.

Has an excellent chance on his juvenile form but his two efforts this term have been weak. Passed over until showing more.

Had two horses now rated in the 90s behind when landing his maiden. Holds Group entries at Royal Ascot and he is probably better than both runs this term suggest. They came in a Derby trial and on heavy ground. Should be seen to better effect here and he could give a good account at a decent price with an underrated claimer on board.

Has lacked the pace to be competitive in two sprints this term. Yard are 0-31 for the last fortnight and it is easier to look elsewhere.

Broke her duck in a handicap here last month and the runner-up has scored since. Ground is a lot quicker and she faces a stiff task up considerably in class and from 7lb out of the weights.

Forecasts

Juanito Chico (11/4), Omran (4/1), Ejaaby (15/2), Thomas Cranmer (9/1), Parfait (11/1), Law And Order (12/1), Six Strings (14/1), Novoman (16/1), Rebel De Lope (20/1), Harmonise (20/1), Town Charter (25/1), Ahlan Bil Zain (25/1), Mutahaady (33/1), Mutawakked (40/1)

Verdict

A typically competitive handicap for the track with several nice horses on view. It is no surprise to see Mark Johnston strongly represented with Musselburgh winner Thomas Cranmer looking the pick of his duo. He looks set to make a bold bid to make all under the champion jockey. Juanito Chico has struck up a good partnership with his rider and, having improved with each run this term, a 7lb rise for his Epsom success may not be enough to thwart him. OMRAN was highly impressive at Newcastle last time where he won in the style of a horse who could prove a lot better than a handicapper. A line through the runner-up gives him an edge over Thomas Cranmer. His rider has a good record for the yard and they are taken to come out on top. Ahlan Bil Zain has legitimate excuses for his two defeats this season and his maiden form suggests there are good races to be won when the stable find form.
  1. Omran
  2. Juanito Chico
  3. Thomas Cranmer
