Has won three times over this sort of trip when there has been cut in the ground, the best of those being from 5lb higher in 2015. Has had some tough enough assignments since then but showed he is up to this when just a 1L third at York from 6lb higher a year ago. Recent efforts leave him a bit to prove but could pop up at a price.
4lb higher than his best win and is a C&D winner, having done so on good to firm last month. Acts on any ground, so rain is not a problem and can probably put a line through his most recent Chester outing when he may not have been seen to best effect at that venue. Claims.
Best form so far has been on good or good to firm ground, though does have a heavy ground win to his name. Stays 1m2f, though yet to win over this far and trying to see out this trip on softer ground is clearly going to be a severe test of his reserves of stamina.
2-3 on the All Weather, her only defeat being last time out at Newcastle when upped in grade. Best form on turf has been on soft or heavy ground, so could enter calculations on that basis, but looks high enough in the weights now and has it to prove over this far.
Made all to win here over 1m4f in September by 6L from 1lb lower and also has form on good to soft ground. Will probably need plenty of use making of him again, which suits around this track and with that proven stamina in the locker he will be tough to beat.
Like his stablemate he is proven over 1m4f, though he has yet to win on turf, on which his best efforts have been on good ground. Has won from today's mark on the Tapeta, so not totally ruled out, though clearly needs to be somewhere near his best.
Sole win was on his debut at Doncaster way back in 2013. Has run well here on soft ground over 1m before now, but his CV is one of decline from those early days. In good hands and a further 1lb lower than when beaten just under 4L at Leicester (1m2f, soft) on his reappearance, so a precautionary market check is advised.
Forecasts
Sands Chorus (3/1), Maraakib (3/1), Indy (10/3), Jacbequick (8/1), Mukhayyam (17/2), Toboggan's Fire (9/1), Salmon Sushi (16/1)
Maraakib has certainly got the ability to win a race like this and relishes cut in the ground, so even though his form has been more out than in in recent times, a big run at a price would not surprise here. Sands Chorus has claims, while John Quinn may be able to work some magic with Indy, who surely can't continue to slide much further in the weights before winning. However, MUKHAYYAM made all to win here last year and although this is shorter, is similar tactics are applied he should be able to get them all on the stretch and he won't be stopping at the business end.
- Mukhayyam
- Maraakib
- Sands Chorus
