Placed in all five starts in from 6f-1m½f, though proving expensive to follow. Handicap mark looks fair for his first attempt in this grade and interesting that connections start him in this grade. Likely to be tough to beat.
Placed a couple of times in maiden company and came good in a handicap at Doncaster (6f, good to firm) in November. Outperformed his 16-1 odds on his return when stepped up in class (7f, soft) at York last time and looks well capable of having a major say this time from the same mark.
Debut winner at Southwell last year (5f, AW), but seen only twice since and improved for his return run when beaten just over 3L at Leicester (6f, good to soft) last week. This is not as strong a race and he is drawn well, so he looks unlikely to go off at 80-1 again and a repeat could see him go very close.
Improved with each run last year and finished off by breaking his maiden at Catterick in October (6f, soft). Couldn't get competitive before being disqualified on handicap debut at Thirsk last month. Dropped 1lb going into this and if you can forgive him that latest run then this unexposed gelding could get very competitive.
Has been in good form of late and underlined that with success in a Carlisle handicap last time (7f, good to firm) from 3lb lower. Unexposed over this trip, though has poor draw to overcome and also yet to race on ground slower than good, so has to prove he handles that if conditions get worse.
Couldn't make an impact on his sole handicap start at the end of last season when 1lb higher, but made a positive return to action at Redcar last time when scoring over this trip (good to firm) in an auction maiden. May now be better equipped to handle this company, though is likely to need improvement to follow-up.
Won an auction maiden over this trip at Lingfield in March when with William Knight and well held in handicap company from 2lb higher than today on his next start. First start for this trainer, who may be able to find further improvement and a market check is advised in order to gauge any confidence in that respect.
Unexposed after just the one handicap start so far when beaten less than 3L at Wolverhampton (6f, AW) in November. Returned from gelding operation/winter break to score in a 7f Musselburgh maiden (good to firm) last month. Back up 3lb and in stronger company he will need to improve, but that is not ruled out.

Forecasts
Golden Apollo (3/1), Hydroxide (4/1), Merlin (4/1), Dan Troop (9/2), Hajjam (9/2), Grinty (8/1), Sumner Beach (8/1), Right Action (10/1), Halawain (10/1), Red Gunner (14/1), Sword Exceed (20/1), Man Of Verve (25/1)
Another open heat where Hydroxide has claims now going handicapping but his form does give the impression that he is still vulnerable and GOLDEN APOLLO is preferred. Tim Easterby's charge won't mind any rain and his York run last time looks very solid in the context of this race. Merlin, Sumner Beach, Dan Troop and Halawain are others who make some appeal.
- Golden Apollo
- Hydroxide
- Dan Troop
