Listed-level winner in October as a novice hurdler, and returns to chasing here having only had one previous race in this sphere. He was beaten by subsequent Arkle winner Altior in a match-race on that occasion so essentially remains an unknown quantity over the larger obstacles. The one to beat.

Point-to-point and hurdles winners who is now a second-season novice chaser having been restricted to three runs last term. That form is relatively solid though, and he could get involved if overcoming the absence since October.

Difficult to know what to make of his form since returning from a long absence in January, but clearly exceeded expectations when half a length from getting off the mark over fences at odds of 25/1 in March. Ran with some credit in a match-race last time and not discounted.

Verdict

If able to bring anything like his best form over hurdles to this, then BLACK CORTON should prove very difficult to beat. Paul Nicholls' charge won a Listed novice hurdle at Kempton last October, and has only had one attempt at chasing, and was beaten by the imperious Altior on that occasion, losing little in defeat. He actually out-jumped his rival that day, and that all bodes well for a huge run here. Spoilt Rotten has been slightly difficult to get a handle on since returning from a long break in January but has some good form in the book and is preferred next, ahead of Remind Me Later, who now finds himself as a second-season novice, though through little fault of his own.
  1. Black Corton
  2. Spoilt Rotten
  3. Remind Me Later
