Useful in handicaps and has won twice this year at Chelmsford and most recently at Haydock Park under a good ride from Richard Kingscote. Appeared to benefit from a front-running ride (settled better) and looks well-in here under a penalty if he can get to the front again.

Quite useful last year when he was with one of his former stables winning three handicaps the last off a mark of 77. Hasn't looked in the same form this year and faces competition for the lead.

Now on a long losing run with his last win coming back in August 2015 off a mark of 71 over 1m1f. Without his usual headgear last time back off a break and still without that equipment here and more needed.

Right back to form last time out when winning a five-runner event over C&D with Hot Mustard 4L behind when he was assisted by a falling mark. Suited by the way this race developed and while he may find it hard to follow-up he is still off a decent mark.

Twice a winner over C&D the last coming off a mark just 1lb lower just over a year ago. Ran creditably coming back off a long break over 2f further here but looks on about the right mark.

A regular here he shaped well enough here on his reappearance and then shaped as though he was still in good form last time out over further (1m2f). Probably better over shorter and looks as though he'll be competitive here around a course that suits.

Turned in a career best when winning at Yarmouth last time out winning in good style having looked as though he was capable of a performance like this on his previous run. Runs under a penalty here and given the style of his win worthy of respect here despite only having two wins to his name.

Forecasts

Captain Courageous (7/4), King Oswald (2/1), Mokhalad (3/1), Hot Mustard (4/1), Stormbound (6/1), Mister Musicmaster (10/1), Peak Storm (12/1), Saint Helena (14/1), British Embassy (16/1)

Verdict

Quite a decent little heat and it should prove competitive with five C&D winners in the field. Mister Musicmaster may find it hard to follow-up his win and Stormbound is another who may just be held off his current mark. Hot Mustard always acts well around here and this shorter trip will suit him better but in the end this probably boils down to a battle between King Oswald and CAPTAIN COURAGEOUS. The latter gets the vote after his impressive win at Haydock Park last time out and he could be well suited by front-running around here.
  1. Captain Courageous
  2. King Oswald
  3. Hot Mustard
