Not totally disgraced on some of his recent starts and arguably prefers this distance to sprint trips, but still hasn't shown the level of form necessary to capture a handicap of this nature in the near future.
C&D scorer two starts ago who is 4lb higher in the weight now and ran a fair race in defeat at Bath last time on ground that may have been too fast for him. Will be more at home back on the Tapeta and another bold bid can be expected.
Eased in class and goes down 6lb in the handicap after finishing last of all at Beverley last time. Needs to return to his best form from last year (when carrying a higher weight), in order to prove effective now.
Made a brilliant start for this trainer late last year but has since looked handicapped to his best, and still has a higher rating than at that time, despite a series of subsequent defeats. Does prefer this distance to the 6f he tried last time, though.
C&D winner who hasn't gotten his head in front since December 2015 but has gone close on a number of occasions, including when just denied over this trip at Kempton last time. On the same mark now and should put in another big performance.
Behind California Laird over this C&D but is slightly better off at the weights now and arguably wasn't given the hardest ride that day (he finished sixth). Should be capable of improving on that now.
4lb lower than when scoring at Chelmsford last November and returns to a course that he has form at being ridden by a jockey who knows him well. Will need to pick up better than on his recent starts, however.
Only seen four times since December 2015 and has failed to figure in any of them. Makes his British debut for a new trainer off a higher mark now and looks an unlikely player.
Triple C&D winner but has been in nothing like that sort of form recently, and would appear to be the owner and trainer's second string in this contest.
Has looked like she is waiting to win a race given her recent performances, and may have gotten even closer last time if not burning out in front a long way from home. Slight step down in trip won't hurt, and she looks a leading contender once again.
Won over this C&D twice in March last year. Hasn't quite shown the same level of ability since but ran a great race at Chelmsford last time and should put in another big performance here.
Won over C&D on handicap debut but has shown next to nothing since and a visor is now reached for to see if that can get her back on track. Back down to that winning mark for the first time but victory still seems unlikely on her recent form.
Forecasts
Air Of York (7/2), Caledonia Laird (4/1), Misu Pete (6/1), Ettie Hart (7/1), Top Offer (15/2), Dark Confidant (10/1), Black Truffle (16/1), Rock Of Monaco (22/1), Noble Act (25/1), See You In Malta (25/1), Firesnake (33/1), Iceaxe (40/1)
CALEDONIA LAIRD is only 4lb higher in the weights than when scoring over C&D two starts ago and prefers Tapeta to Bath's quick turf surface, meaning a better performance can be expected compared to a resounding defeat last time out. He still managed to shape well that day and more can be expected off the same mark now back in his favoured conditions. Top Offer was behind the selection here on his own last racecourse appearance but can improve on that now, so is feared most, ahead of Ettie Hart, who had looked like she is waiting to win a race on many of her recent racecourse appearances.
- Caledonia Laird
- Top Offer
- Ettie Hart
