Overcame a poor draw to build upon his Doncaster debut experience (fourth) and go in at the second attempt at Beverley last month. A shade tricky pre-race but there was no crabbing his finishing effort and he is the form pick turned out under a penalty (riders claim helps to negate) for his AW debut.

Unraced Big Bad Bob colt who cost 25,000 gns earlier this year. His Dam Love Match was a 7F winner, but he is also a half-brother to an Italian sprint winner, so this trip should be fine. His locally based trainer has saddled a couple of winners recently.
Greeness cost this colt any chance on debut at Chelmsford early last month, and he's surely capable of better with his trainers juvenile runners in excellent form. A half-brother to Group winner Yalta out of a 1m juvenile winning Dam (Lacily), an improved second start is anticipated, with this race the chosen target from five other entries over the course of the next three days.
$120,000 gns yearling, and that figure rose to 300,000 gns earlier this year. Unraced Distorted Humour colt (out of In Bloom), and with a US pedigree, it is no surprise to see him debut on synthetics. Obvious contender on paper, but stable not going so well of late.

Unraced Helmet filly out of a 6F juvenile winner Aroundthebay. Second foal and makes his racecourse debut for a much respected yard.

Unraced seventh foal by Showcasing out of Leonica who is a half-sister to various winners including Rodrigo De Torres and Dune Dancer. Always wise to respect a newcomer from this yard, but this looks a decent enough contest in which to be starting off (against five colts and one other filly).

Verdict

Beverley winner Almane is the clear form pick, but he's penalised and switches to the AW for the first time and the draw could've been far kinder. The purchase price of Global Humour immediately catches the eye, and with a dirt pedigree, it's unsurprising that his trainer chooses to debut him on synthetics rather than on turf. The filly Sosian hails from a yard who is constantly respected in juvenile contests, whilst Pilkington is also worth noting for any market support. It takes a leap of faith to select BRANSCOMBE on the strength of his Chelmsford debut, but his trainers juveniles are flying and there's reason to believe he's far better than that showing, and with plenty of other options over the next few days, it is note-worthy that this competitive contest has been chosen.
  1. Branscombe
  2. Almane
  3. Sosian
