Seems to like it here having won a bumper and finishing a good second behind a well backed winner who has scored again since.

Regressive and no real form to speak of for a year now, his best effort coming at Warwick in December under totally different conditions than he faces today. Others have stronger claims.

Ran well here a year ago in better company. Has struggled with the handicapper recently but a couple of runs down the field under an amateur have seen him dropped a couple of pounds. Rider 16-51 for the stable who boast a 21-71 record here and which had a double on this card last year.

Looked beaten until taking advantage of the uphill climb and two toiling rivals to land a three runner chase last time. Flattered by that performance and handicapper equally unimpressed. Switches to hurdles and has only made the frame once over the smaller obstacles. Extra distance should suit and goes well for today's rider, but it usually pays to oppose him.

Best efforts have come over further. Hit his usual flat spot over C&D last time and was unable to recover.

Maiden after 33 races under all codes. Beaten 36L when last of five off a 5lb higher mark under last time out and appears to have plenty to do in this.

€22,000 half-brother to Charminster but has looked out of his depth in all starts to date including his handicap debut. Tackles a new trip but hard to be enthusiastic about his prospects.

Has looked poor lately and even the presence of the champion jockey failed to inspire him last time. Still tumbling down the weights and still looking out of sorts.

Stable are in good form and he was not winning out of turn when landing a mediocre race at Exeter. Trip was too short last time but it is a while since he was competitive from this mark and amateur rider is 0-48 under rules.

Verdict

This race is hardly as competitive as the numbers may have you believe. Cor Wot An Apple and DRAGOON GUARD represent stables that do well here and their trainers, respectively, had a treble and a double on this card last year. Cor Wot An Apple caught a tartar when well supported last time and that winner has boosted the form since. DRAGOON GUARD may have less obvious claims on recent form. An inexperienced amateur has been on board for his last couple of starts which have seen his mark fall a couple of pounds. Today's pilot has an impressive strike rate for the yard and, as their only runner on the card, the hint may be worth taking.
  1. Dragoon Guard
  2. Cor Wot An Apple
  3. Cougar Kid
