A five time career winner from 32 starts, with his latest success coming in soft ground over this trip at Thirsk in September 2016. Edging up the weights, but consistent since (twice a runner up) and entitled to be sharper for his Doncaster comeback in April over an inadequate 1m2f.
Off the mark in no uncertain terms when a clear cut winner of a 1m4f Thirsk handicap almost two weeks ago. Raised 9lb, but this is only his third start in a handicap and open to further improvement having shown a fair level of form previously in AW maidens last term..
Won a small field affair over C&D in October 2015 (beat Penhill), so no doubt he has ability. However, nowhere near that level for the entire campaign last year. Well handicapped from a mark of 80 if a winter break has rejuvenated, with the market informative in that regard.
Previously with John Gosden and bought for £14,000 in August 2016. Won on his first two starts for this trainer (1m6f at Musselburgh and Southwell), but upped in the weights accordingly. Not so effective twice since (January) and back on turf after a short-break 12lb higher than for his Musselburgh victory on grass.
C&D maiden winner for Lucy Wadham in June (good to firm), but beaten from marks of 80 and 79 since switched to handicaps. Lightly raced and has moved to another yard, but a watching brief advised for now.
In excellent fettle between March and May 2015 (1,2,1), but form tailed off in the latter part of that campaign. Off since November 2015, and impossible to expect anything other than he'll need this long overdue return to action.
Eight time career winner (won in June and July 2016 from similar marks) and entitled to have needed his first two starts this campaign. However, now aged eleven, and unlikely to have much in the way of improvement ahead.
Improved on his three starts in maidens when second to Proctor on his handicap debut for Sir Michael Stoute (1m2f) at Sandown in Juy 2016. Absent since and moved onto new quarters for 8,000 gns. More to come perhaps but stamina a worry over this trip.
1m6f winner on soft ground at Redcar in October 2016, and races from a 6lb higher mark following a couple of low-key AW showings. Has experience of this track (fifth over C&D last season), but will find the ground a bit lively tonight.
C&D winner in June 2015, but has shot up the weights since then, and won twice more last July at upto 2m. Found life tough going more latterly off marks as high as 80, but easing ever so slightly, and whilst this is probably more his optimum trip, he is likely to need a couple of spins to be seen to maximum effect.
His last success came over a shorter trip (1m2f) at this track in September 2016 but he races from a 6lb lower mark today. Often over races early and his stamina gave out over 2m latest (Ripon), and the suspicion is that 1m4f is also too far at a stiff track like Pontefract.
All three career successes have come over 1m2f on soft ground, and he's not got either trip or ground conditions in his favour tonight, so likely to be taking a further tumble down the weights after another low key finish.
Forecasts
Mutadaffeq (3/1), Mysterial (4/1), Western Prince (7/1), Pumblechook (8/1), Tamayuz Magic (8/1), Hernandoshideaway (12/1), Ingleby Hollow (14/1), Scottish Summit (14/1), Torremar (16/1), Itlaaq (25/1), Indian Chief (25/1), Sheriff Of Nawton (50/1)
MUTADAFFEQ will quite rightly be strong in the market after his Thirsk romp earlier in the month. A 9lb rise and a stiffer track will provide the David O'Meara trained New Approach gelding with a sterner test, but it's probably a one that he can surpass on his way to achieving better things. Tamayuz Magic is high enough in the weights, but offers a solid alternative, whilst any market confidence should be noted for the attractively handicapped Hernandoshideaway.
- Mutadaffeq
- Tamayuz Magic
- Hernandoshideaway
