Picked up some good form in maiden last year, including winning at Ascot in September, and also ran well on handicap debut the following month, Up 5lb for that second placed finish and couldn't land a blow at Chelmsford last time, and will need to show more here now eased in class.

Narrow winner of a Newcastle maiden last time out at the third attempts, and now steps up in trip for her handicap debut. Looks like she should stay this trip with the minimum of fuss but does need to overcome a relatively high opening handicap mark.

Won with something in hand at Chelsmford last time to get off the mark at the second attempt, when showing definite improvement from her first start. This mark looks fairs on that basis and she goes for respected connections. Big player.

Justified odds-on favouritism last time out to win a maiden at this course at the fourth time of asking. Got that done with a minimum of fuss and should have further improvement in her from a low draw.

Up 6lb for just a 1L victory in a Nottingham handicap last time over slightly further than this and looked then like this distance would be an absolute minimum going further. Could prove vulnerable to an opponent with more natural speed.

Didn't look like she definitely stayed at Kempton last October on her only try at this distance so far, but subsequently won over 7f at Southwell and isn't ruled out if able to overcome the break and transfer that form from the Fibresand to the turf.

Won a Lingfield maiden in February but has broadly struggled since and looked like plenty more assistance from the handicapper will be required before she notches up a second win.

Winner when stepped down in trip in December and now returns to a mile with that win secured. Some of her form has worked out very well though (beaten only 5½L by subsequent Cheshire Oaks winner Enable) and she is an interesting contender on that basis.

Well beaten in each of her racecourse appearances so far (though one of those was in a Listed race), and though she goes off a low weight here others bring more convincing claims to the race.

Won a lowly Kempton handicap last month and went close to doubling up at the same track last time, and as a result goes up in the weights again. This requires more, and that is a big ask off her current weight.

Alnaas (2/1), Dellaguista (5/1), Queen of Time (11/2), Panova (6/1), Flying North (8/1), Syndicate (10/1), Fleeting Francesca (16/1), Braztime (16/1), High On Love (20/1), Vigee Le Brun (33/1), Mitigate (50/1)

Verdict

This is a fairly good quality affair where many of the contenders have recently won races and a relatively strong pace can be expected. Perhaps ALNAAS, for the lethal combination of Gosden and Dettori, can get the job done. She won well on debut at Chelmsford at the second attempt and looks a big improver, especially when you consider some handicap novices in this field have shown less ability so far but seem to have ended up with higher early marks. Among them, Panova shouldn't be discounted on the basis of her maiden win at Newcastle last year, while Dellaguista was sent off favourite to beat subsequent Cheshire Oaks winner Enable in a race last November, so is clearly well-regarded.
  1. Alnaas
  2. Panova
  3. Dellaguista
