Southwell specialist who also boasts a win at Kempton. Reassessed following a Southwell hat-trick during the winter and has been struggling since. Stable are in excellent form.

Exploited a good handicap mark in February and subsequent solid efforts in defeat have left him stuck 8lb higher. Rider good value for her claim and that improves his prospects, although others appeal as more likely types.

Has won eight races, including three here, but yet to score in 17 races in this grade. Has a bit to find with Almanack on running here in March (7lb worse off for ½L).

Improving type who is now 3-11. Got too far adrift at Nottingham last time but was finishing in good style. Promises to be competitive from this mark with yard continuing in form.

Best efforts, including two wins in claimers, have come over C&D. Dropping down the weights and useful 7lb claimer booked. Clipped heels when beaten in a Lingfield seller last time but promises to be a different proposition under optimum conditions.

Impressive winner at Wolverhampton in November and was having first run since when fading close home at the same track three weeks ago. Should be ready to give a good account on a track that will suit his front running style.

Hold Firm17
Age: 5|  Weight: 8-13| J: S Donohoe| T: M H Tompkins| OR:  62| CD

Has won three of his last seven races and now enters uncharted territory as he races off a mark above 60 for the first time and moves up in grade. Nevertheless, closely matched with Scribner Creek (4lb better of for 2¼L) on running here in March. Has three wins and four placed efforts over C&D from 10 starts.

11/4
Relatively low mileage and has now won 2-11 including a C&D success last month. Tends to miss the break but has a good finishing kick and is hard to dismiss. Trainer has a good record here and is 9-45 for the C&D.

Six-race maiden who has been given some respite from the handicapper having finished well down the field at Haydock last time. This will be his easiest task to date but yard are 0-22 over the past eight weeks.

Sole victory in 17 starts came in a minor race at Brighton and well beaten since at Bath when she was possibly too keen in the early stages. Has form here over 5f and trainer's horses have been going well.

Forecasts

Scribner Creek (2/1), Samphire Coast (11/4), Almanack (7/2), Tee It Up Tommo (5/1), Hold Firm (10/1), Andalusite (12/1), Russian Ranger (12/1), Foie Gras (14/1), Brasted (20/1), Captain Peaky (25/1), Shearian (25/1)

Verdict

Scribner Creek is clearly on the upgrade for his in form yard. The likelihood of a decent pace will be an advantage and he is hard to overlook. Brasted, Hold Firm, Foie Gras and Samphire Coast all do well over this C&D but ALMANACK appeals as the most likely winner. He exploited a lenient turf mark and a well judged ride to land a ladies race last time. A subsequent winner has come out of the race and he is well weighted with Foie Gras on running here in March.
  1. Almanack
  2. Scribner Creek
  3. Brasted
