Not shown a great deal since being runner-up in a couple of Down Royal bumpers in 2015 and impossible to recommend him on recent efforts over hurdles.

Point-to-point winner who cost £200,000 a couple of years ago. Former Paul Nicholls inmate who switched back to hurdles here (2m7½f, good) last time out and was sent off favourite but beaten 12L into second. Despite that, a repeat gives him stronger claims than most of breaking his duck today.

Showing very steady improvement over hurdles, his best effort being last time on a sound surface at Perth (2m). Pulled up when tried here over c&d (soft) prior to that, so may do better back here on good ground, though still plenty to prove.

Got off the mark in a point-to-point last time (2m4f, good). Dam won chases from 2m-2m5f and is a half-sister to 2m-2m6f chase winner Pillaging Pict, out of a bumper/2m-3m1f hurdle winner. Market check advised on his rules debut.
Showed next to nothing in three point-to-point runs and was pulled up when well beaten on his hurdles debut at Carlisle (2m3½f, good) last month. Impossible to recommend him at present.

Won a point-to-point on debut in January and was then bought privately. Stepped up on his debut in a Wetherby bumper when returning there for his hurdles debut last month (2m, good) and making the frame in a similar race to this. Should be capable of improvement now stepped up in trip and looks a leading player.

Very hard to enthuse about the chance of this 13-race maiden, who has been tried at a variety of trips and in a variety of conditions and not yet threatened to take a hand. Others readily preferred.
Showed little to get excited about in her two bumpers, but did better when faced with hurdles last time at Kelso in December. Half-sister to a 2m-3m hurdle winner and a 2m-2m5f hurdle winner and therefore there is probably more to come from her.

Won a point-to-point last month at the third time of asking. Half-sister to a 3m hurdle winner and out of a maiden full-sister to French 2m2f (Listed) and 2m3f hurdle winner. Nice enough pedigree and one to check out in the market on her rules debut.

Forecasts

Hawkhurst (11/8), New List (7/4), Catch A Lucky Star (7/1), Talkofgold (8/1), Ripstick (16/1), Beyondtheflame (22/1), Queen Of Avalon (33/1), Loughview Laddie (50/1), Your Preference (125/1)

Verdict

Not a strong opener to the card and one where HAWKHURST is selected. His effort last time was probably the best piece of public form on offer coming into this and the drop back in trip plus headgear can work the oracle. New List looks next best and should improve on his Wetherby exploits now upped in trip, while the others of most interest are point-to-point winners Ripstick and Talkofgold, plus Queen Of Avalon.
  1. Hawkhurst
  2. New List
  3. Queen Of Avalon
