Not at his best on his reappearance at Wolverhampton earlier in the month but has never seemed totally at home on a synthetic surface. Up in trip here and has a chance on the pick of his form from last year, and is now a much-reduced mark.
No win since October 2015 but interesting to see him stepped down in trip latest and he ran with some merit. Down a further 2lb and has claims if building on that in conditions that should suit.
Ran a fine race to finish third over C&D on his seasonal reappearance earlier in the month, and remains on the same mark here. Will handle the ground and is entitled to go close once again.
Ran consistently well in bumpers before winning a maiden at the first attempt on the Flat and going close on handicap debut last time out. Up only 1lb here and the step up in trip should suit. Big player.
Takes a massive step up in trip today having been running in sprint handicaps until now, looking weighted to his best on his recent starts. Given he has his stamina to prove beyond 1m and the fact this clearly wasn't Plan A, he is best watched here.
Recently won back-to-back races over hurdles but her record on the Flat is less encouraging, though she drops to a career-low mark now and should enjoy the ground.
Only four career starts across three years so far suggest he has had his problems, but he showed ability when winning a maiden on debut over 7f, though he failed to make any progress from his first run back at Windsor last time. Interesting contender.
Makes his stable debut for a trainer more often associated with the other code (just a 6% strike-rate over five years on the Flat) and with a lengthy absence to overcome. Was a fair handicapped when running in Ireland but is more than entitled to need this.
Ran all his best races over shorter than this and suitability for this trip has always been under question despite his connections' persistence. Drops to his lowest mark yet but that is unlikely to make the difference on the basis of his recent performances.
Sole victory came on debut but has shown flashes of promise in the intervening years and drops down the handicap again here. Goes for a new trainer and shouldn't be totally discounted.
Forecasts
Eskendash (2/1), Compton Mill (9/2), Swaheen (6/1), Indy (13/2), High Draw (8/1), Giveaway Glance (14/1), Mikmak (14/1), Hidden Oasis (16/1), Jufn (33/1), Gold Flash (66/1)
By far the least exposed option on offer, at least in this sphere, is ESKENDASH. Pam Sly's charge ran several times in bumpers, finishing second on each occasion, before switching to the level and really coming into his own, winning a maiden on debut and being beaten only 1L on handicap debut last time. There could be plenty more to come, and though this trip will probably prove to be a minimum in time, he definitely has the pace to get the job done. He is fancied most ahead of Compton Mill, who ran an encouraging race over C&D last month, and Indy, who is interesting for a new trainer.
- Eskendash
