All his handicap wins have come on the AW off much lower marks and his one handicap run on turf at York was disappointing off a mark of 84 (runs off 94 here). Made a good comeback after a winter break (gelded in that time) over a mile at Lingfield (not as well placed as first two) and rarely runs a bad race although the return to turf does beg a question or two.

Still looks to have some potential in him based on his Salisbury win last year over a mile on soft ground off a mark of 82. Two subsequent runs in 2016 at York and Newmarket were solid off 88 and 92 and possibly improved again on return in Spring Cup at Newbury (form working out well) when sticking on to finish a very solid eighth.

Lightly raced for one of his age he only has a maiden win to his name at Redcar in 2015 over a mile on soft ground. His last run was only his third since that win and his first as a gelding but it did show potential and why connections have kept him in training with his ability to travel strongly at the head of affairs and stay on well showing that he could still improve and will stay further (split two last time out winners).

Hard to fault his win-to-run ratio (4/7) and he posted another useful effort to land an AW mile handicap at Lingfield last month benefitting from a positive ride. Turf wins have all come on ground that was good or better and if the ground remains on the soft side of good it remains to be seen how he fares here off a career high mark.

Losing run is starting to get longer and longer although he has been highly tried in some of his races (tried in Listed and Group races). Possible that things didn't go his way last time out on his first run for this yard after leaving William Muir dropped to 7f (needs a mile plus) and looks of interest off this sort of mark returned a mile.

Very much looked as though he would come on for the outing at Thirsk last time out in their version of the Hunt Cup when he was a 20/1 shot. Did win twice last year but those wins came off lower marks and he start the season off a mark of 88 which looks tough enough although he should handle the ground.

Forecasts

Storm Ahead (7/4), G K Chesterton (5/2), Red Tea (4/1), Moonlightnavigator (11/2), Calvados Spirit (6/1), Takatul (8/1), Replenish (9/1), Truth Or Dare (12/1)

Verdict

A competitive handicap with a nice betting shape to it and form that should pay to follow with a few that come here in good form. Although she won well last time out the rise in the handicap might just prove a little too much for Red Tea although she should get much closer to Calvados Sprit this time after that pair met at Wolverhampton. Storm Ahead still looks on the upgrade after his Newbury run in the Spring Cup with Replenish a definite player if he can transfer his AW form to turf. Of the bigger prices Truth Or Dare looks dangerously well handicapped now but with connections keeping G K CHESTERTON in training and given the promise he showed at Nottingham against some progressive types he has to be given the nod here.
  1. G K Chesterton
  2. Storm Ahead
  3. Truth Or Dare
