Three time winner over hurdles who probably found the trip too short on his chasing debut at Carlisle last month (fifth of six over 2m to Halcyon Days). Has largely remained competitve since winning over hurdles at Catterick (this trip) in November, and better can be expected with some valuable fencing experience accrued.
16L C&D winner in February 2016 (when rated 11lb lower), but ran his best race for a while when runner up to Karisma King over 2m5f here last month. Can race prominently and could lay up handy behind the likely pace angle (Maxed Out King) at a track which clearly suits.
Dual C&D winner (latest success on Boxing Day), but on a downward trajectory since breaking a blood vessel at Catterick in late February (pulled up), and well behind Oscar O'scar latest. A risky proposition at the moment.
Previous course winner, and finished just over 10L third to Muwalla (runs at 1.50pm) and subsequent winner Vodka Wells over 2m here twelve days ago. Incidentally he'd also finished runner up in that same contest in 2016. Less effective over this sort of trip, but only 2lb higher than when winning at Southwell in April, so holds claims in a small field affair.
An 11lb rise seemingly stunted his progress when beaten at Newcastle in January, having previously been unbeaten in two starts over fences. Has won here previously (and over 2m4f at Newcastle), and returns fresh from a break. All of his form over fences has come with cut, so connections must be hoping for significant rainfall in order to maximise his winning chance.
Forecasts
Maxed Out King (13/8), Oscar O'scar (5/2), Chestnut Ben (5/1), Thyne For Gold (6/1), Attimo (9/1)
A small field, but competitive enough, with probably four of the five runners holding a realistic chance. The more rain the merrier for the returning Maxed Out King, who is the clear pace-setting angle. This trip should suit Thyne For Gold who is fairly unexposed over fences, but with the Micky Hammond National Hunt string shaping well over the course of the past week, OSCAR O'SCAR is the selection in the hope that he can lie handy throughout and be delivered late in the home straight by Henry Brooke.
- Oscar O'scar
- Thyne For Gold
- Maxed Out King
