Opened his account at Taunton over 3m but failed there under his new mark next time. Dropped in trip for this which should not be a problem if ridden as positively as has been the case recently. Stayed on well to finish fourth in this 12 months ago and impossible to rule out despite his big weight.

First time cheekpieces addressed his decline in form at Newton Abbot a month ago. Nevertheless, he did not put up much of a fight and others are preferred.

Agincourt Reefp16
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-12| J: Harry Teal(7)| T: R A Teal| OR:  117

Winner of a Wetherby hurdle over this trip on Boxing Day and has since added a chase victory. Lost nothing in defeat when attempting to make all last time over a trip just short of his best. Versatile in terms of tactics and is fairly treated here.

Age: 5|  Weight: 11-10| J: Brendan Powell| T: B G Powell| OR:  115

Surprise winner on his hurdling bow in November and highly tried since. Handicap mark looks right and stable form is a concern.

Good effort last time following a 15 month absence. Entitled to improve for the run so a 4lb rise looks fair. Stable have been enjoying a profitable Spring so no surprise to see him go very close.
6
Horse silk
Lord Bryan42
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-9| J: S Bowen| T: P & M Bowen| OR:  114

0-9 so far but has made the frame four times, including over further than this at Hereford in March (soft). Has fair bumper form on good ground but bled internally last time when pulled up. Stable have not been producing the winners with the regularity expected at what is usually a profitable time of the year.

Horse silk
Dun Bay Creek85
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-9| J: Wayne Hutchinson| T: A King| OR:  114
10/1
Beat a subsequent winner (now rated 125) when scoring comfortably at Newton Abbot in June. Poor on soft ground next time and back on a sound surface he is one to consider.

Horse silk
Bendomingo28
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-7| J: Mr Zac Baker(7)| T: N & W Twiston-Davies| OR:  112
8/1
Has gone 16 races without a win and needs more help from the handicapper. Stable have been quiet lately but he will at least get a strong pace which will be a big advantage.

Horse silk
Mr Mcguiness211
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-7| J: Benjamin Poste(3)| T: Mrs R Gasson| OR:  112
50/1
Stable are without a winner since last July when he was a winner of a minor contest at Southwell. This looks a lot tougher.
10
Horse silk
Daveron21
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-5| J: N de Boinville| T: B Pauling| OR:  110
7/1
Has been on a downward spiral for some time and has dropped out tamely on his two most recent starts. No doubting his mark looks attractive but more positive evidence is required that he retains the ability and attitude to take full advantage.

Braqueur D'Or164
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-4| J: Sam Twiston-Davies| T: P F Nicholls| OR:  109
7/2
Jumping lacked fluency last season and it will be interesting to see how he fares on debut for the trainer who took this race 12 months ago. Remains hard to be enthusiastic about his chances unless the market suggests significant improvement is on the cards.

Forecasts

Braqueur D'Or (7/2), Lord Bryan (5/1), Sebastian Beach (6/1), Daveron (7/1), Bendomingo (8/1), Jaboltiski (10/1), Agincourt Reef (10/1), Milord (10/1), Dun Bay Creek (10/1), Finula (25/1), Mr Mcguiness (50/1)

Verdict

Braqueur D'or is the most interesting runner in this on his debut for last year's winning trainer and jockey combination. This will not take much winning and the hint would be worth taking if the market suggests there is more to him than his bare form suggests. Dun Bay Creek could give a good account at attractive odds now that he is back on a sound surface. Agincourt Reef has been in good form since switching to his new yard and has plenty in his favour but SEBASTIAN BEACH appeals as being potentially better handicapped than his more exposed rivals. A good stayer on the Flat, he landed his maiden over hurdles in 2015 when the next three home all went on to earn marks in the 120s. A rating of 115 still leaves his in-form trainer with plenty to work with.
  1. Sebastian Beach
  2. Agincourt Reef
  3. Dun Bay Creek
