Showed some promise in his debut bumper last year, but nothing since. 100/1 and beaten 18½L over 1m4f at Wolverhampton on his Flat debut last month. Somewhat unusual now dropping back another half mile, but there is speed in his pedigree. Nonetheless, looks best watched.
Led until over a furlong out over 1m2f at Pontefract last year, finishing a 5L third on his only run for Saeed Bin Suroor, before changing hands for just £4,000 in January and gelded since. Pedigree suggests that the drop to this trip should not inconvenience him and the market should prove informative.

Cost 56,000 gns as a yearling but has clearly not been easy to handle and there is certainly an irony about his name as he has only once seen the racecourse, when running well over this trip at Southwell last year. Pedigree suggests that this trip should be fine, though a watching brief advised unless market vibes are strong.

Another member of the line-up who was first tried in bumpers, beaten a long way and then switched to the Flat. Beaten just under 7L when sent off 250/1 on his debut in this sphere at Redcar last month (1m, good). Dam was a 1m4f winning half-sister to a 7f 2yo Group Three winner, but pedigree more about stamina than this trip demands.

27,000 gns yearling and a half-sister to 1m3½f-2m winner Cosette out of an unraced half-sister to 1m2f-1m4f Group Three winner Hattan and 2m Group Three winner Tastahill. Stamina laden pedigree suggests that she will do better when stepped up beyond this trip and another to watch on her debut.

Beautifully bred colt by a top-class sprinter out of a 1,000 Guineas winner. 16/1 and ran green for much of the way before coming home well at the Craven meeting (7f, good to firm). Stepped up in trip and has to be a very likely improver for that run and a much shorter price to break his duck today.

15,000 gns foal and £16,000 yearling. Half-brother to a 5f and a 6f winner and out of a German 5f-7f winner. Grandam also best over sprint trips, so it would have to be a concern that he is being campaigned over this far, as was the case when last of six, beaten 12½L on debut at Beverley last month. Best watched.
Cost 30,000 gns as a two-year-old. By Kentucky Derby third out of a 1m US Stakes winner. Half-brother to a dirt winner in the US , he showed limited promise on debut at Southwell and did a fair bit better on turf at Hamilton last time (1m½f, good to firm). Probably more interesting when handicapping but precautionary market check advised.

At 550,000 gns as a Book 1 yearling, this gelding cost more than the rest of the field put together, so it will be disappointing that he has been gelded before this debut. Well bred and related to winners from 1m½f up to 1m4f, his dam scored over 1m2f, so this looks a good starting point. Very interesting.

Verdict

A race in which Newmarket raiders have won four of the last 10 runnings, with Yorkshire-trained runners tipping the scales in their favour five times, but it looks as though Lambourn-based Charlie Hills could hold sway this time. AFAAK is given the nod after a green debut where he got the hang of things late on and with that plus the step up to 1m both looking positive, he could prove too good for Mathix. William Haggas's charge is feared, however, after finishing ahead of some reasonable opposition last time. The expensive Tribal Conquest is the potential fly in the ointment on debut, while Different Journey and Last Chance Paddy are perhaps the most interesting for the 'home' side.
