Did not see the racecourse until midway through her 3yo season, but ran well on debut to be beaten only 2L in a Doncaster maiden. She was fourth again at the same track last month and steps up a furlong for the third outing which will qualify her for a handicap mark.

By Derby winner Sir Percy out of a Haafhd mare, he cost €10,000 as a 2yo, but did not run as a juvenile. Likely to need the experience on debut, he is best watched.

Bought for 160,000 guineas as a yearling and is a half-brother to a couple of winners. Makes a belated debut, so has presumably had his issues, but his pedigree is appealing and he is one to note.

Two runs as a juvenile saw him take part in two Yarmouth maidens, finishing runner-up in the second of them. over a mile. Second again on his reappearance at Redcar, again over a mile, he drops back 2f which could well suit given the way he travelled last time. Strong contender.

Placed six times in seven races, he endured a nightmare passage in a Yarmouth handicap last month, being hampered and struck twice by a rival's whip. Might well have won there with a clear run and has major claims if that experience has not left its mark.

Bought for £6,000 by current connections in March, she is a daughter of Cape Cross who started slowly and finished last of seven on her debut at Salisbury. Needs to show more,

Primadonia8

Down the field on her only start at two, she shaped a little better for her new yard when fourth of 10 on the AW at Lingfield eight days ago. Drops a furlong in trip and is likely to be seen in a better light when handicapping.

Initially a £21,000 yearling, she was resold for 30,000 guineas and is a sister to four winners, including Group 1 sprinter Move In Time. Certainly bred to be speedy, she looks the most likely of the newcomers.

Forecasts

Merlin (1/1), Stanhope (5/2), Hollander (4/1), Razzmatazz (14/1), Primanora (14/1), Rivas Rose Marie (20/1), Primadonia (40/1), D'waterside (50/1), Babette (100/1)

Verdict

Sporting the Royal colours, the progressive Merlin should make a bold bid, but STANHOPE may have his measure. He has been consistent, had a luckless run last time and deserves to win a race. There are several debutants who could be useful and the one which stands out on breeding is Razzmatazz, for whom any market support could be significant.
  1. Stanhope
  2. Merlin
  3. Razzmatazz
