Three-time winner as a juvenile and has more experience that most in here. Failed to place in four starts in the UAE this winter though and he was disappointing on his return to these shores when well beaten at Newcastle. Vulnerable from a handicapping perspective and but he does have a nice draw; jockey rides this course well.
Won his maiden with ease on his third start at Newmarket but very disappointing on his reappearance when he refused to settle at that same course last time. No doubt he's better than that and may have just needed his first start so better expected this time around and trainer/jockey had a winner in these colours here on Wednesday.
Has looked a little more effective on the AW than turf and drop back in trip probably not a positive. Will do well to defy this draw.
Won at Doncaster towards the end of last season but disappointing on return at Chelmsford in March. Effective from the front but he's not straightforward (can hang and race keenly); remains to be seen whether this course will play to his strengths and he's disappointed twice on faster ground so may want rain.
Hit and miss performer who never got going last time at Lingfield. Has a habit of missing the break, remains on a career high mark and trainer has been particularly quiet in recent weeks; hard to fancy despite having the services of a useful jockey around here.
Appeared to love the fast ground at Salisbury at the end of last month and he was unlucky not to win at Musselburgh the time before. Could still be effective under a 6lb penalty, is one of the more consistent sorts and his trainer went very close to having a winner here on Wednesday.
One of the more experienced in the field having had six runs as a two-year-old winning twice over 7f on good ground. Shaped like he needed the run at Sandown on his reappearance and suspicion is that he's on a feasible handicap mark.
Good winner at Lingfield on return but will need to find more now 6lb higher in the handicap and his wide draw will make things difficult.
Smart winner of a small field Beverley maiden on final start of 2016 and very unlucky on return to that course on his first start this season, just failing to get up. May come on for that effort and trainer/jockey have a 22.22% strike-rate around here. Should go well.
Took a while to get off the mark as a two-year-old but finally scored when winning easily here in September. Performed with credit at York on final start of 2017 but proved a little disappointing in two front-running efforts this campaign, most recently when favourite at Beverley, and looks set to struggle from out of the handicap.

Mutawatheb (7/2), Via Egnatia (7/2), Sharp Defence (6/1), Areen Heart (8/1), Masham Star (9/1), Rebel De Lope (9/1), Aventinus (11/1), Arc Royal (14/1), Perfect Madge (16/1), Letmestopyouthere (25/1), Mailshot (25/1)
VIA EGNATIA can return to the form that saw him win a maiden comfortably at Newmarket last year and connections had a winner here on Wednesday. It would be no surprise to see Sharp Defence run well under a penalty if the ground stays on the fast side while Rebel De Lope should come on for his recent reappearance at Sandown.
- Via Egnatia
- Sharp Defence
- Rebel De Lope
