His handicap form last year was useful with wins coming at Hamilton (handicap debut) and Chester over 6f and a mile. He did disappoint in between those two starts though despite looking well treated (showed temperament) and he looked as though he needed the run on his return off a tough looking mark.

Ran two good races in maidens before disappointing on his qualifying run. Soon bounced back to win on his handicap debut over 7f and Musselburgh looking as though he could hold his own in better class. Failed to follow up that win in two subsequent starts but does have a positive profile overall and his yard have started to spark back to life.

Strong travelling sort who turned in a whole string of consistent performances in handicaps last year winning at Hamilton and Sandown. Picked up from where he left off when winning on his comeback run on the AW at Newcastle on his penultimate start. Not in the same form last time (ran too free) and may just find this mark of 77 beyond him.

Reeled off a quick fire handicap hat-trick on 2015 on the AW and his only win since then has also come on an artificial surface. Looked as though he may well capitalise on a falling mark when sixth behind Chaplin Bay at Newcastle on his penultimate start but failed to match that run last time out when last at Wolverhampton. Now back on turf a surface he's never won on.

His sole win last year at Yarmouth came off a falling mark and he looked to struggle a little off higher marks after that. His reappearance run this year saw him run well in unfavourable circumstances and he struggled in his next start with this mark still looking a bit beyond him.

Maiden form showed promise but his initial handicap mark looked a little harsh and he does need a little help from the handicapper. Ran a creditable race on his second handicap start coming back from a break (could have been poorly positioned) and remains one with some promise for handicaps if he can build on his last start. Engaged at Hamilton on Sunday over 6f.

Boasts a good record over this C&D although she has never won off mark this high and generally needs some cut in the ground to be seen at her best. Ended last season on a downward spiral and it remains to be seen if she can bounce back here.

Forecasts

Glengarry (7/2), Chaplin Bay (7/2), Ionization (4/1), Character Onesie (9/2), Tommy G (5/1), Kingsley Klarion (10/1), Redvers (10/1), Dragon King (12/1), Royal Duchess (20/1)

Verdict

There are a few that are “bubbling under” in this contest although quite a few look to have tough tasks off their current marks. Chaplin Bay is a consistent sort and is probably best excused his run last time out and it’s not hard to see him bouncing back to form here. Similarly it would be no surprise to see both Dragon King or Kingsley Klarion produce a better performance along with Ionization although that one looks to have a tough task off an inflated mark. With the Dalgleish yard now looking to be back on song GLENGARRY could well get his season off to a winning start over a trip that looks to suit him and with some progression looking likely.
  1. Glengarry
  2. Chaplin Bay
  3. Dragon King
