Has some fair form in novice company, notably when third to Applaus at Newcastle and a runner up to Mr Clarkson at Sedgefield in February. Struggled when upped to 2m4f on his penultimate outing, but much better back over this trip at Sedgefield latest when downing Cesar Et Rosalie by 3¼L. Major player under the penalty.
Well beaten over C&D on his hurdles debut last month (in a race won by his stablemate Applaus). More required.
Runner up to Another Bill (2/9f) in a 2m4f maiden hurdle here in May 2016, and has raced in handicap company since from marks in the low 100's. Drops back in trip tonight to 2m and playing for places.
Keeness a key feature in all of his races so far, but lasted a little longer on his hurdles debut here last month before weakening into sixth behind Applaus. Needs to drop the anchor from the front in order to maximise his chances of seeing out his races.
Ex Godolphin and now a three time runner up for his Cartmel based trainer. His turn will come, and we know he's fit and well after an outing at Perth last week, but a surprise if he's up to beating Crackdeloust.
Ex Irish (met Penhill on hurdles debut at Galway in July 2016). Makes his UK debut for a yard which saddles the likely favourite Crackdeloust, so this run promises to be informative as much as anything else.
Cost £50,000 as a three-year-old, and represents much respected connections. Showed minor promise in bumpers, and not disgraced on his hurdles debut (maiden) at Wincanton in March. Likely to be wiser for that experience, and meets very little of the calibre of Winningtry tonight promising to be suited by dropping back to 2m.
Rear to midfield finishes in two starts in bumpers, and makes his hurdles debut at a realistic level, but unlikely to be involved at the finish unless the market speaks otherwise.
Showed plenty when beaten by just over a length in a bumper at Ayr in February, but was slowly into stride when a beaten 6/4f next time before planting himself and refusing to race back at Ayr latest. A different track tried for his hurdles debut with the hood worn for the first time.
Showed ability on the Flat for Andrew Balding but has looked very limited in four spins over hurdles to date. Cheek-pieces applied tonight.
Forecasts
Crackdeloust (5/4), One For Billy (5/2), Golden Town (3/1), Flying Jack (10/1), Wynford (28/1), Getonsam (50/1), Royal Act (50/1), Rooster Spirit (50/1), Its Pandorama (66/1), Charin' Cross (125/1)
Three of these horses are head and shoulders above the others. Golden Town will find a race (perhaps at Cartmel), but this looks to rest between the penalised CRACKDELOUST and the unexposed One For Billy. Both horses promise to be suited by this 2m trip, but the Brian Ellison trained gelding has winning form over hurdles as well as some solid enough placed efforts behind the likes of Applaus and Mr Clarkson, and comes here in preference to making his handicap debut elsewhere on tonight's card.
- Crackdeloust
- One For Billy
- Golden Town
