Largely out of form for this yard over the winter months and has dropped sharply in the weights. Won a seller for Seamus Durack at Stratford in July 2016 and did well enough thereafter for Dan Skelton, but questions remain if he's able to recapture anything like that level of form nowadays.
Sedgefield specialist, and a runner up when last in action in a seller at the County Durham venue in January 2017. He patently didn't get home on that occasion and this reduced 2m trip is ideal. Likely to force the pace and a leading player rated 108.
Took an age to get off the mark over hurdles finally scoring in a Musselburgh novice in November over (2m6f) in a weak event. His handicap mark took a hit (now rated 115), and he was struggling a long way from home at Kelso latest hence the drop into a seller.
His sole rules victory came at Cartmel in August 2014 (2m6f good), but he's a regular at this track and does have placed hurdles and chase form on his CV. Has competed in Point-to-Points without success in 2017, so on balance can't be fancied here.
Off the track since November 2015 and worrying to see him return at this lowly level even allowing for the fact this race could be viewed as a confidence booster. Much the best of these in his prime; a runner up from a mark of 127 at Sandown in November 2015 (2m4f), he could still well prove far too good for this bunch.
Unplaced on eight career starts and has regularly finished tailed off. Not raced since December 2016 and drops into a seller for the first time, but unlikely to be good enough.
Formerly with Gary Moore (last won at Plumpton in December 2015), but has shown little in eight starts for this yard. Beaten in a seller latest, with a drop back to 2m possibly in order.
A career record of 1 from 55 speaks volumes for the level of ability this mare possesses and off since August 2016, she needs the first time tongue tie to have a revolutionary impact to take a hand.
Forecasts
Slim Pickens (1/2), Mondlicht (3/1), Discoverie (7/1), Alyasan (14/1), Spinning Scooter (20/1), Bygones For Coins (33/1), Torero (33/1), Raifteiri (125/1)
With all due respect to connections, a truly awful contest to kick off the evening action at Hexham. Discoverie will be suited by dropping back to 2m and likes to race prominently, and could battle for the lead with Torero who has claims on his best form over this trip for Gary Moore. Life will be tough for Mondlicht in handicaps so a seller looks the way forward whilst Alyasan looks a shell of the horse trained by Seamus Durack and Dan Skelton. SLIM PICKENS would have carried these rivals on his back in his prime and in such a weak race is worth chancing on his return from 18 months off with Sam Twiston-Davies booked.
- Slim Pickens
- Mondlicht
- Torero
