Winning hurdler who rattled off a hat-trick in that sphere last year and lightly raced on the Flat of late. Sole win on the Flat came back in 2014 over 1m4f and she didn't shape with that much encouragement on a recent AW run at Wolverhampton over 1m4f.

Free-going sort who has won a couple of times on the Flat over staying trips and produced a career best last time when forcing a dead-heat at Wolverhampton over 2m. Probably need to improve again to take a hand here.

Ex-Aidan O'Brien inmate who never managed to win for the yard over staying trips (wore headgear in all starts bar his debut). Has never run on the Flat for his current yard but he showed ability and temperament in equal measure on his one hurdles start for them (without headgear) and he now reverts to the Flat with cheekpieces back on off a 1lb lower mark than his handicap debut. Looks one of the likely pace angles in this.

One win to his name and that came in a Wolverhampton maiden over an extended mile. Has been gradually stepped up in trip in handicaps (mark falling from original one) and gelded over the winter. Looked to need the run last time out (travelled well) and the tongue-tie goes on for the first time over the longest trip that he's faced so far.

Some of her handicap form prior to her easy maiden win on the AW in January would be good enough for her to make her mark here as would her follow-up handicap win over 2m also at Lingfield. Not disgraced on her hat-trick bid at Kempton Park in a race won by an unexposed sort and back on turf here although the shorter trip isn't ideal.

Consistent in staying handicap of this nature although her latest win came over shorter (1m4f) but she was helped there by a strong gallop and positive ride. Suspicion that the handicapper has her in his grasp on a mark of 70+ and that it may be the places she is aiming for here rather than another win.

Had shown some promise in handicaps after his Kempton Park maiden win over 1m4f on his second start. Not really seen to best advantage in some of those handicap starts but that early promise has ebbed away now and he ended the season poorly. Needs an end-to-end gallop and a positive ride to be seen to best effect even over this trip.

Maiden runs (had also run in two bumpers) looked just a prelude to going handicapping and duly showed improved form when switched to that sphere wining easily over 1m3f at Kempton Park off a lenient mark. Not seen since that easy 5L win and comes here off a break and a 9lb higher mark looking for his second win.

Didn't really improve for the switch to handicaps after showing some decent form in staying maidens. Ran creditably on her latest start coming back from a break over 1m4f on the AW but there is still a doubt about her staying this trip on turf.

Last win came back in 2015 when he had a decent season scoring twice (once here over 2m). Winless since (couple of solid efforts) but ended last season below par and it remains to be seen if a break and a mark that has slipped below his last winning one can revive his fortunes.

Finished second in this last year when only beaten by one that was thrown in off his mark with subsequent Cesarewitch and Group 3 winner Sweet Selection back in fourth. Won two handicaps after that over similar trips (1m6f) and comes here with a prep run under her belt (trip too far and ridden too aggressively) at Lingfield on the AW. With no well-handicapped lurkers this year she looks sure to go close again and could even go one better.

Winner of her first two bumpers at big prices in 2014/15 before moving onto the Flat and offering only a little promise in maidens. Well backed on her handicap debut she failed to make much of an impression and like she did in bumpers has regressed after her opening runs. Ruins off her lowest handicap mark here back off a break but hard to know what to expect.

His run last August at Salisbury ended a long losing run although he had just registered a consistent spell but the slight rise for that win appeared to anchor him once more. Generally runs his race but was very laboured last time out over hurdles and others have more potential here.

Took advantage of a fall in the weights to score on the AW early in 2016 but the handicapper was soon back in control until recently when with his mark below 70 he showed up well in an amateur riders event at Doncaster. Would very much have benefitted from stronger handling and does need things too fall his way (usually held-up) but is potentially well treated off a mark of 66.

Forecasts

Denmead (5/1), Spiritoftomintoul (6/1), October Storm (8/1), Miss Tiger Lily (8/1), Maestro Mac (8/1), Mazalto (10/1), Art Of Swing (12/1), Onorina (12/1), Fitzwilly (14/1), Ayr Of Elegance (16/1), Three Star General (16/1), Tobouggaloo (16/1), Ivanhoe (20/1), Perfect Summer (25/1)

Verdict

A wide-open staying handicap to open a good and competitive card with Art Of Swing very much setting the standard as long as he’s ready to roll after a break and off a 9lb higher mark. Three Star General would be if interest on his old form in Ireland but he did look a little awkward over hurdles last time out. Miss Tiger Lily is one of the more solid options in the race as she is consistent in these sort of events. Towards the foot of the weights lurk a couple at bigger prices though with SPIRITOFTOMINTOUL lurking on a very dangerous mark along with last year’s second Onorina who looks interesting if repeating her run in this last year.
  1. Spiritoftomintoul
  2. Onorina
  3. Art Of Swing
