Just 4lb higher than when winning over this trip at Tipperary on penultimate start of last season, was below par when last seen but claimer gives him every chance if he's straight for this return.

Ned's Island4
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-10| J: Paul Townend| T: D M O'Brien| OR:  100

Winner over 2m5f at Tramore last month went well at Down Royal on Monday off this rating, this longer trip should help and he has to be considered.
3
Horse silk
Jack Sladet195
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-9| J: J M Moore| T: N Meade| OR:  99

Winner over 2m4f at Fairyhouse on penultimate start last season, can be forgiven a flop on final outing at Punchestown. Good chance on return if fit enough to do himself justice.

Kiera Royaleh,t25
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-9| J: P E Corbett(3)| T: D H Kelly| OR:  99

Some promising placed for last season at 2m - 2m3f, was well below best at Tramore last month, perhaps not helped by a skirmish over the first flight. Must bounce back now.

Naturally Blondt26
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-7| J: Mr M C O'Donovan(7)| T: Patrick Cronin| OR:  97

Beaten around a dozen lengths last month at Tramore over 2m5f, has shown the odd glimpse in maiden hurdles that suggests better might be forthcoming now sent handicapping.
6
Horse silk
Derrygereen Girl169
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-6| J: Phillip Enright| T: James King| OR:  96
14/1
Hasn't shown a lot in three outings in maiden hurdle company, likely to be a few too good in this line-up despite the switch to handicaps. Tackles 3m for the first time.
7

Kalinitet17
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-5| J: R M Power| T: Mrs J Harrington| OR:  95

There hasn't been much in four maiden hurdle runs to suggest he'll enhance the trainer's excellent recent record now switching to handicaps. Improved effort not ruled out.
8
Horse silk
Doldrum Bay104
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-3| J: Donagh Meyler(3)| T: A Lynch| OR:  93

Efforts so far have been laboured, failed to beat any of 18 rivals home at Navan in January over 2m4f in a soft-ground handicap hurdle. Plenty on to take leading role in this on return to action.

For Pedrot13
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-2| J: B J Cooper| T: T Cooper| OR:  92

Attempted to launch a challenge off this mark at Ballinrobe on Tuesday over 2m1f but faded from two-out. Steps up to 3m for the first time with work to do.
10

The Ballyboys64
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-2| J: Danny Mullins| T: R Hackett| OR:  92

Winner at Limerick (2m3f) over Christmas but not as good from revised mark since. Gets 1lb back now but hasn't appeared to stay this far in two previous attempts.

Horse silk
Coolnagorna Giggsb,t14
Age: 11|  Weight: 11-1| J: D J Mullins| T: T Hogan| OR:  91

Has done all his winning over fences to date but ran a solid race reverting to hurdles at Kilbeggan a fortnight ago when finding only one too strong off reduced mark. Raised the minimum, can hope to go well again.
12
Horse silk
Tranquil Magict100
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-0| J: R Loughran| T: C Bowe| OR:  90

Won a point-to-point over 3m a year ago, but best effort in five under rules has come at the minimum trip around Limerick in December in heavy going. Isn't written off just yet.
13
Horse silk
Posh Frockt329
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-13| J: I J McCarthy| T: L Byrne| OR:  89
33/1
Hasn't run for 329 days, has been pulled up in two of previous three outings including in a handicap hurdle over this C&D. Is at least benefitting from some assistance from the handicapper now.
14
Horse silk
Whoyakodding25
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-12| J: Brian Hayes| T: G Ahern| OR:  88
25/1
Just four starts over hurdles so could have more to offer but backed out of things worryingly fast over 2m5f at Tramore last month on first handicap start. Gets 2lb back but hard to fancy in this competitive line-up.

Horse silk
Oh'herewego100
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-8| J: M A Enright| T: V T O'Brien| OR:  84
50/1
Beaten 44L in a C&D maiden hurdle in January, in keeping with previous efforts over timber, and pulled up in only start since (reportedly bled) at Fairyhouse. Returns from 100-day layoff needing to offer up something new to get involved.
16
Horse silk
Indian Summer71
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-7| J: D F O'Regan| T: S J Mahon| OR:  83
33/1
Has been sent off at big prices in four maiden hurdles, including over this trip at Thurles in February when pulled up. Significant turnaround in fortune needed for this handicap bow to be competitive.
17
Horse silk
Pitore15
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-7| J: Ricky Doyle(7)| T: I Madden| OR:  83
50/1
Laboured and yet to pose any sort of threat in four starts over hurdles, steps up to 3m for the first time on handicap bow, has to improve markedly to figure.
18
Horse silk
Pyrford Pippinb129
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-6| J: D Robinson(5)| T: P Nolan| OR:  82
33/1
Was sent off 100/1 in three maiden hurdles to date and rarely posed any sort of threat, pulled up on handicap bow at Limerick last month over 2m6f, gets blinkers on for the first time now.

Horse silk
Alices Manb133
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-5| J: Rachael Blackmore(3)| T: Miss E Doyle| OR:  81
12/1
Struggled in two handicaps so far, including over this sort of trip at Thurles in December. Gets some relief from the handicapper and first-time blinkers here in bid to spark him into life.
20
Horse silk
Johns Choicep25
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-4| J: M J Bolger| T: S J Kenny| OR:  80
16/1
Best effort to date came in handicap debut at Limerick in December over 2m5f on yielding ground. Is now rated 4lb lower and not disgraced last month at Tramore over same trip when sporting first-time blinkers (retained here).

Forecasts

Ned's Island (13/2), Jack Slade (8/1), Kalinite (8/1), Coolnagorna Giggs (8/1), For Pedro (9/1), Naturally Blond (10/1), The Ballyboys (10/1), Alices Man (12/1), Doldrum Bay (12/1), Kiera Royale (14/1), Derrygereen Girl (14/1), Tranquil Magic (14/1), Tristram Shandy (16/1), Johns Choice (16/1), Whoyakodding (25/1), Pyrford Pippin (33/1), Posh Frock (33/1), Indian Summer (33/1), Oh'herewego (50/1), Pitore (50/1)

Verdict

COOLNAGORNA GIGGS posted a personal best over flights at Kilbeggan a fortnight ago when taking the runner-up spot behind an easy winner. He's been raised just 1lb for that effort and was well clear of the remainder, assuming he shows up here in the same mood, he'll hold strong claims of going one better this time. Tristram Shandy and Jack Slade both need to be forgiven disappointing efforts on their final starts last term, but can lay down challenges here if ready to go on their respective seasonal bows. Ned's Island is an improving sort and is greatly respected with an excellent rider taking over in the saddle tonight while Tranquil Magic may have more to offer in time.
  1. Coolnagorna Giggs
  2. Ned's Island
  3. Tristram Shandy
