A nicely-bred filly (cost £50,000 at the sales in December) and has already shown that she possesses the ability to win a race when conditions are to her liking. However, she's been off since last August and, as she makes her debut for a new yard today, so does need to prove her fitness and that she has trained on into her fourth year.

Beat a 74-rated rival in a match race on her return last year but was limited to just two starts afterwards; the latter of which saw her well beaten in a class 2 handicap at Newmarket. This is a more realistic target for her and, given that she goes well fresh, she cannot be discounted. Also noteworthy that her yard has headed the trainers' list for numerical winners at this course in recent times.

The form of her Lingfield maiden success is yet to really come under scrutiny but the race has already produced a couple of low-grade winners, so feasible that it will work out well. However, she steps up considerably in trip, so needs to be at the top of her game for her first start since October. Sure to be popular because of her illustrious connections and trainer's profile, but quite whether she represent good value at skinny odds is very debatable. (From a yard which won the 2013 renewal of this race. )

Cost 130,000 gns and is a half-sister to three winners between 7f and 10f. Her last two starts have suggested that stepping up to this sort of trip won't be too much of an issue and it will be very disappointing for her connections if this nicely-bred filly can't have a say in race of this nature.

Cost 13,000 gns as a yearling and is related to a hatful of winners. Starting to really get the hang of things and made all to land a fillies maiden at Chester last time out. That was a marked improvement but the form isn't working out so well; so she may struggle to fend off the likes of Melodic Motion and Mittens if they can deliver on their potential.

Forecasts

Melodic Motion (13/8), Mittens (2/1), Celestation (9/2), Luna Mare (7/1), Pernickety (8/1), Desert Way (12/1)

Verdict

This will probably revolve around Mittens and MELODIC MOTION; with the latter appealing as the one open to the most improvement at this new trip. The Ralph Beckett-trained filly edges the nomination as the one to be on this time around. Celestation could do no more than win her race at Chester last time out but, given the way the form is working out, she will do well to keep the principles at bay. Luna Mare is eased in grade and is respected. But she may be better off with a run under her belt.
  1. Melodic Motion
  2. Mittens
  3. Celestation
