Wasn't particularly impressive in two big field handicaps towards the end of last season but has always seemed like the type who prefers racing in smaller fields, especially when he's able to dominate. Big player here if allowed a soft lead.
Very competitive type who ran well on his first start of the year at Chelmsford earlier in the month when finishing second. Remains on the same mark now in what looks a similar race and he's entitled to go close.
Has shown herself to be the type who enjoys a strongly run 6f, though there would be doubts over how quick the pace will be today. Handicap mark looks workable, though, and she can't be totally discounted.
Won narrowly at Newmarket in October but hasn't managed to repeat that form since, mostly finishing well beaten in large field affairs. Hasn't always shown his best at this uniquely configured track, either.
Remains on the same mark having gone close the last twice, with this return to good to firm ground over 6f sure to suit. Also has the benefit of a recent run, unlike several of these..
C&D winner who has looked held by the handicapper recently, but returns to a course where he has run well in the past. Limitations look firmly exposed for now though, and he's probably best watched.
Makes his handicap debut having won a maiden over C&D on his previous start last May. The absence suggests that he may have had his problems, but his opening mark looks fair if he's able to overcome that.
Has struggled recently but usually reserves his best for this course as a three time winner here, twice over C&D. Needs to bounce back but he has the assistance of a top jockey in the saddle.
Has been running well on the all-weather over the winter and now returns to the turf having not yet won on this surface. He has come close, though, and he can't be ruled out of this.
Makes his debut for this yard having previously been with Charlie Hills and looks to notch up a first victory on the turf. Blew out when beaten favourite at Pontefract last time and it's possible he's just better on a synthetic surface,
Narrow winner at Sailsbury last time out in September and is raised 2lb from that run. Is a fairly consistent placer in his races, and he run okay fresh in he past.
Was in fair form last year but his efforts on the all-weather have petered out somewhat over the winter, and he has been well beaten in lesser races than this (including over today's trip) on a number of occasions in recent months.
Forecasts
Rio Ronaldo (11/4), Cold Snap (3/1), Lightning Charlie (5/1), Little Palaver (8/1), Under Siege (8/1), Englishman (12/1), Pettochside (16/1), Cool Bahamian (20/1), Pretty Bubbles (25/1), Satchville Flyer (50/1), Kyllukey (66/1), Gold Flash (66/1)
If he can overcome a long absence from the track, COLD SNAP may be worth chancing on his handicap debut. He won a maiden over today's C&D when last seen in May last year but has presumably had his problems with the prolonged absence since. That performance gave the impression he could have plenty of improvement in him though, and an opening mark of 82 could prove lenient in time. In terms of those who have been seen more recently Little Palaver could go well if able to dominate from the front, while this may also be a good opportunity for Gold Flash to notch up a first victory on turf.
- Cold Snap
- Little Palaver
- Gold Flash
