Won a 2m4f Wincanton novices' contest last season but has failed to add to that in eight starts over both hurdles and more recently fences since. Was getting closer at Newbury last month over the minimum trip and a further 5lb drop sees him step down in grade. That should make him very competitive here.

Back on the mark that saw him make all at Towcester in November over a similar distance. Thrashed in all three runs since, but it may just be that this is the ceiling of his ability and a market check is advised, especially with forecast conditions to suit.

5lb higher than his last win, at Southwell in June. Went well from this mark when narrowly defeated two runs later and after a spell in the doldrums he returned to form at Stratford last time. Looks likely to have a major say in this.

Likeable pacesetter who has proved difficult to win with in the past two years, but has run some very good races in defeat, including here last time in a better race than this. Would not be undeserving if getting his nose in front.

0-12 so far and has not got competitive in last three starts over fences. Plummeting in the weights but unless he is the subject of significant support a watching brief looks the best advice for the moment.

Lengthy losing run extends back to the first half of last season and he is now 6lb lower than when winning at Market Rasen. Has been beaten from marks lower than he won off there in recent runs and just doesn't look to be quite as good as he was, though stable does very well at this venue.

Kelso handicap chase winner (2m1f, good to soft) in December from this mark and has run respectably since then from slightly higher. No denying that he has a chance again this time and has won over C&D. Should be involved.

Forecasts

Dartford Warbler (2/1), Strongly Suggested (7/2), Leanna Ban (7/2), Crookstown (11/2), Rosquero (15/2), Milgen Bay (25/1), Christmas Twenty (33/1)

Verdict

Just about the best betting race on the card. STRONGLY SUGGESTED came back to form last time and now that he is back on a winning mark he might be up to winning this. You couldn't begrudge a win for Leanna Ban, who enjoys his racing and should again make them all work in behind, while the drop in grade for Crookstown makes him very interesting. There are other angles too, with Dartford Warbler one of those who might have punters kicking themselves if he comes home in front, though he has been a beaten favourite in three of his last four starts.
  1. Strongly Suggested
  2. Crookstown
  3. Leanna Ban
