Impressive winner at Fakenham and Wincanton during the winter. Has had some stiff tasks in handicaps since and he drops significantly in class here. Has ground to suit and has an obvious chance, despite the conditions of this race leaving him conceding large amounts of weight to all. Yard are 13-29 here in the past five seasons.

No show at big odds in all three starts. Faces another stiff task here and hard to fancy despite stable record at this course.

Would be meeting Soupy Soups on 46lb better terms if this were a handicap. Best effort came here on a sound surface but that is the only positive.

Readily outpointed last time by a horse now rated 118. All four runs have been on heavy ground. In form yard are 7-21 with their hurdlers here.

Placed in an Irish point-to-point but off the track since that run in May 2016. Yard are 0-46 with hurdlers over the past five seasons.

Verdict

This appears to b a match between SOUPY SOUPS and Thisonetime. The latter has won a bumper and has been placed twice over hurdles on heavy ground. On the most recent occasion he split a pair of horses, who are now rated 118 and 120, having made mistakes and having gone clear three out. He is up in trip and running on much faster ground than he has previously encountered. On these weight terms he is not that far behind SOUPY SOUPS but the topweight is proven at the trip and on similar going. Neil Mullholland's charge was an impressive winner over 3m at Fakenham and the second and fourth have gone on to win since. Three subsequent winners were behind him over this trip at Wincanton prior to that and this race should be well within his reach.
  1. Soupy Soups
  2. Thisonetime
  3. Mahler Bay
