Began with three wins from his first four starts over 7f/1m and signed off with a game effort in a Listed race over 1m2f at Newmarket (good) when a close third behind Coronet. No obvious reason why he can't take a hand on reappearance.

Made all to win his maiden at Chepstow (1m, good to soft) on second start but could only manage fourth in a novice race on softer ground next time at Ayr (1m, soft). Open to improvement over middle-stances this year and should feature.

Clearly relished the longer trip when finally delivering at the fourth attempt over 1m1f at Redcar (soft), easily making all by 7L. Looks sure to progress further over middle-distances this year and could could take some stopping off present mark.

Had twice placed prior to opening his account in a weak maiden auction at Chelmsford over 1m in October, despite taking a keen hold. Very much bred to appreciate longer distances but jockey booking suggests he isn't the yard's best hope.

Won twice for John Portman as a juvenile and has proved a revelation for current connections, landing an AW hat-trick until he was beaten into third behind Mailshot in a better race at Chelmsford (1m). Up in trip, vulnerable to less exposed types.

A promising second on his debut over 7f at Newmarket but didn't back that up on the AW until dotting up at Newcastle in January, the step up to 1m2f working the oracle. Hard to dismiss off just a 4lb higher mark with yard going well.

Took a bit of time for the penny to drop but has responded with three AW wins from his last four, the latest coming when swooping late to win over 1m2f at Lingfield. Raised another 7lb and this may be a bridge too far.

Forecasts

Sofia's Rock (11/4), Permian (3/1), Hushood (11/2), Mister Manduro (11/2), Doctor Bartolo (6/1), Atkinson Grimshaw (12/1), Emenem (16/1), Poetic Force (20/1)

Verdict

Mark Johnston boasts a strong hand here with jockey bookings suggesting SOFIA'S ROCK is the pick of his trio following an emphatic win when stepped up in trip at Redcar when last seen. This further step up in distance should only improve him and his current mark looks there to be exploited. Stablemate Mister Manduro should also relish this longer trip, as should Doctor Barolo who hails frorm an in-form yard.
  1. Sofia's Rock
  2. Doctor Bartolo
  3. Mister Manduro
