Runner-up in a sub-standard Newmarket maiden before finishing mid-divison there next time. Significantly up in trip and pedigree promises little in that regard with the dam yet to produce a winner over this far and sire being a sprinter.

Half-sister to smart American juvenile Tiz Wonderful. Went down narrowly to a well supported Stoute filly last time. That looks good enough to land this provided she has come out the race ok.
Second foal of the yard's top class mare Dayia who won six races for them including a Listed bumper and a Listed Flat race in France. Yard typically adapt a patient approach with their horses so she looks one for the future.

Half-sister to seven winners including Sea Defence. Eased when beaten and finished last when supported for debut. Can only improve for the experience but remains hard to fancy.

Cost 700,000 guineas as a yearling and is a half-sister to AW winner Monjeni. Made a pleasing debut here in November and bred to be better over this longer trip. Yard still to take off this season and the market should give a clue as to expectations.

Forecasts

Pure Shores (1/1), Fiendish (2/1), Curlew River (3/1), Piaffe (40/1), Luna Magic (50/1)

Verdict

Mark Johnston sets punters a poser by saddling two lightly raced fillies with two of his top riders booked. FIENDISH certainly achieved more when showing signs of greenness going down narrowly to a useful yardstick last time and that form looks a few pounds better than the achievements of Curlew River. FIENDISH looks the most likely on pedigree to get this trip and she has a fitness advantage too. Pure Shores is bred to come into her own over middle distances and she may go on to prove better than these long term. At present her yard are off to a quiet start to the season. It would be more encouraging for her prospects if there was a positive move in the market for her.
  1. Fiendish
  2. Pure Shores
  3. Curlew River
